My statement on President Donald Trump’s activation of 2,000 National Guard troops in California, over the objections of California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, in response to immigration protests:

Los Angeles Unified School District Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho didn't hold back when expressing his anger and "contempt" after agents with Homeland Security attempted to gain access to two elementary schools earlier this week.

This is the way to stand up to these bullies! Respect ✊

Directly defying the wishes of local leadership and law enforcement will only upset an already delicate situation. Trump’s decisions to federalize local protests are just another example of his desperate need to expand his own power over Americans’ wishes.
