Reading through #gleam improvements with the new version, realizing in passing that you can compile to #javascript apparently. I didn't know that. It's fascinating how javascript and web assembly turn into "oh yeah that's the other thing language X can do" for a whole bunch of languages.

I'm disgusted by robotics videos which show the decline in human behavior towards the machine. I don't want the civilatory breakdown of crossing the boundary to kicking a robot as hard as I could. This isn't showing a feat of robotics - it shows that we are not mature enough for advanced robots.

idris elba as bond, tilda swinton as m, asia kate dillon as Q, john malkovich as villain, celia rose gooding and gillian anderson as female leads/double agents although tilda swinton would be an awesome villain too hmhm

TIL and I was today's years old when... illusions shattered.. I really thought "butlerian jihad" was about radical feminism and postmodern philosophy and judith butler... 😂 (still liking my version better :))

My copy of the 2nd edition of "designing data intensive applications" by @martin.kleppmann.com arrived 🥳 It's even more detailed than the 1st edition and reads as good as ever. I learned a lot between now and then (phew :)), it reads now smoother and more familiar than the 1st edition books ftw :)

new cookbooks (#vegan/#vegetarian vegetable cuisine) bubala and boustany try-out: kind of a carrot hommus grilled aubergines with date syrup pea-based fava (freestyle) home made amba and zhug as sauces lentil-grain mix I have at hand 🥕🧄🍆🌿 :)

vacation. sitting in the sunny park on a monday noon. 🌞 (ebook readers were essentially the only technology I actually waited for and really wanted to have..) 📚

Moved a bunch of HumbleBundle computering books, the recent StoryBundle books and a random selection of converted tutorials and articles (mostly with Firefox readability mode) over to the Kobo - looking good so far! Let's load it up :)

The second edition of Designing Data-Intensive Applications, by myself and @chris.blue, is finished and sent off to the printers! Ebooks should be available in the next week, and print books in 3–4 weeks. Sigh of relief. 😅 (BTW, this is a good opportunity to support your favourite local bookshop!)

First impressions of the Kobo: Better UI than Kindle (pretty lean) Nice and sharp Kobo shop lists what/if kind of DRM Now I just have to move the rest of the owls from owlery A to owlery B 😂

I really hate about brexit and now trump that I would have LOVED to live for a couple of years in London and in New York - cities I consider interesting. It's really such a shame.

I have basically been replaced by AI slop at work thanks to the fact that I'm the idiot taking documentation, giving presentations, and sharing stuff in slack seriously. Happy to be a knowledge cow to be milked.

O. watching tram driving championship 😂 in vienna oh so many joke opportunities for trolley problems... (poland first, austria second, morocco third atm in case you urgently needed to know :)

so. I now have basically everything computering I'm interested in as books (minus one or two niche things) so I can now basically turn off the internet so let me quickly post this.. ;)

rod steward voice: I AM SCAALING... I AM SCAAAALING... (did you know that rod steward is a hardcore model train nerd? google it and be surprised) (this is kind of a #clickhouse post as I have reached petabyte scale 🥳)

read this every single day. (english in ALT text)

Victor Klemperer Journal (non-official)@klempererjournal.bsky.social

I remain deeply fascinated by software running for decades continuously and change over the years. I might actually at this point learn #cobol. I'm however still wondering if "omg there's sooo much cobol still running" is true for the EU - counter checking on e.g. job sites doesn't yield much.

16 clusters rolled out. rebuild, refactored, remade everything new, ported everything, made an entire new platform the last couple of months. now I can roll out an "Observability Island" as I like to call them within 3 hours from zero to data ingestion.. 🥳

I think I'm going to focus next year on #observability in context of better debugging and improving finding problems and testing more in the sense of probing. I really enjoy (well maybe "enjoy" is the wrong word haha) a little high speed debugging during incidents here and there.
