So we're 5 mins in to the interview with Jonathan Reynolds before Nick Robinson deigns to let him talk about what he's on for. Maybe it's time for Labour ministers to do what the Tories did: "I'm only here to talk about my brief." #r4today

Can we have the Harry Kane piece overrun so there's no time to Farage please? We'd much rather hear about an Irish heritage lad from a multicultural area who has worked hard than some overprivileged racist grifter. #r4today

Reform councils are showing what an incompetent, corrupt shower they are. They're unlikely to keep their current tally of MPs. They won't be the next government. Pointless to hear their fantasy economics on #r4today

You're reporting for a British audience Sarah Smith. There's nothing "left-wing" about support for universal healthcare (unless you're a Reform/Restore nutter). #r4today

That was a very partial account of the Oxford Street pedestrianisation. Nothing about the new places to sit and eat or the banning of bikes. It will be a much more comfortable space for pedestrians. You'd never know from #r4today

That Minister really needs to read Blood in the Machine by Brian Merchant. People have good reasons to have reservations about AI just as they did about the industrial revolution. #r4today

Interesting that Dale Vince is introduced on #r4today as a Labour Party donor. I don't remember the political donations of other business owner guests being mentioned.

Good point made on #c4news about the dedication of social care staff during Covid. If only just one of the Tories could have shown even a hundredth of the care those underpaid, under appreciated staff did, things might have gone better.

Let's all pay for a fleet of planes to take the parasitic rich to leave the country. No access to private health or education though (which taxpayers largely pay for training for) for any of their family. Still want to go? #politicslive

I'm wondering what proof there is that the "far-left" were rioting in France as reported on #r4today. Aren't the far-right just as likely to have rioted? Given the clip on yesterday's news was of largely non-white shopkeepers surveying the damage to their property it's possibly more likely.

Good for the people damaged by the Covid vaccine getting an overhaul of the compensation scheme. Any hope of compensation for all those clinically vulnerable people who lost their jobs because there is no legal obligation to make working environments safer? #r4today

Blimey, Nick Robinson makes a comment about Trump's ex press dolly thinking the Daily Mail is not right wing and this showing her lack of briefing. And yet #r4today happily reads out the rantings of a largely right wing press without balance. 🤷

What a shame they didn't have Polystyrene's daughter on #newsnight last night to explain to Winston Marshall of Mumford and Sons why he was misogynistic. That would have been worth watching. #r4today

Those vox poppers sound sensible actually. They wouldn't fight an American led war, it would have to be that Britain was in danger. You can stuff your white feathers where the sun doesn't shine #r4today

Call me old fashioned, but I'd quite like the BBC to report on the policies of political parties regardless of how extreme they are or whether the leader feels the need to do physical stunts. The Lib Dem woman tried to tell #r4today they should too, but she wasted her breath with Nick Robinson.

I very much appreciated the emphasis on the word "claims" in James Lansdale's report on Trump saying he's still providing intelligence to Ukraine. Well done. #r4today

For balance #r4today could visit a wind farm. If they went to Clacton to admire the one in the sea, they could combine it with a (fruitless) hunt for the lesser spotted Farage.

For once in his life Johnson is right, but he wouldn't be saying it if he was in power because we all know everyone has to tip toe around Trump for fear of him wrecking our economy even more. #r4today

Anyone remember Chris Mason or any of the #r4today team talking about all the Reform representatives who have left the "party"? Or is it just the Lib Dems and the Greens who get this treatment?

Brad Smith is almost there. It's not just having the technical ability to regulate AI, that's the easy part. It's also the ethical ability to know when to apply regulation. We need philosophers. #r4today

Will #r4today cover the Tories' fantasy figures any time?

Jonathan Portes@jdportes.bsky.social

This prompted me to go back and check the claim that "On current DWP forecasts, from the 2024 election until 2030, Labour will have increased working-age benefit spending by a further £51.6 bn/year." It appears to be equally fictional/spreadsheet error. Correct figure is maybe £36bn..

This discussion about special needs diagnosis doesn't mention that it's yet another example of the privatisation agenda of the Tories that has led to this mess. #r4today

Surely Bridget Phillipson has a right to briefly summarise the findings of that report without interruption. Not everyone will have heard the report writer. Tiresome from Anna Foster. #r4today

I'm not a fan of Polanski, but compare and contrast the democratic way in which the Greens operate leading to openness about criticising him and the way Farage's Reform goes about things. And look at which one gets more opprobrium on #r4today

Intro for Any Questions : "Dido Harding known for leading the Test and Trace programme". Surely it should be "known for the ridiculously overspent and under performing Test and Trace programme". Why on earth is she on there? #r4today #bbcaq

Disappointing analysis from the More or Less woman. Talks about a test of whether parties "on the left" would work together. In Holborn and St Pancras there's no need for those parties to work together. It was always going to be a two horse race. #r4today
