Ooohh…I like that Chow stat.

John Michael McGrath@jm-mcgrath.bsky.social

A high-turnout election! Bradford got more votes losing than all but 2 winners in Toronto's post-1997 history, and both those cases were incumbents running against relatively weaker challengers. Olivia Chow, of course, won *even more* making her the most vote-getting politician in Canadian history.

Indeed, when you’re disingenuous about everything, the people know. Chow has authenticity. Heck, Doug Ford is often authentic. He’s a d-bag, but we know it & for a lot of people that’s enough. What we can’t stand is an out & out faker.

This post is unavailable.

Which, of course, means that when we seem him run again at another level…and he will (ONPC leader?)…he’ll go full Poillievre. Just BS all the time. He doesn’t have it in him to “find himself” & get real. Or he moves to small, safe conservative town and runs there.

As always, up the turnout, and you up the progressive vote.

Paul Kulig@paulkuligto.bsky.social

Voter turnout may be the big story in Mayor Chow’s re-election. Turnout is up 250K compared to 2023 and Chow’s popular vote is also up 250K. Compared to 2023, she’s held onto her base downtown and in central Scarborough, but added north Etobicoke, parts of North York & completely swept Scarborough.

It should be illegal to win any election with turnout this low (only 28%). Sorry, just keep running it again and again until everyone shows up. And send them the bill. Also the Brampton mayor continues to be a white guy not from Brampton. Challenged by a white guy. IN BRAMPTON. Like cmon.

We all have more in common than we do apart. Except for the rich people, who will choose the person they can influence the most, instead of the person most qualified. (All while telling you that they believe in merit.)

Luke LeBrun@lukelebrun.ca

Note how the mayor-elect won by getting people in suburban wards to vote for them rather than by appealing exclusively to voters who live downtown *cough*

Delicious.

Brazil’s Supreme Court on Monday ordered the police to seize the passport of Flávio Bolsonaro, the presidential candidate defeated in Sunday’s election, because he is under criminal investigation related to a money laundering scheme. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/26/w...

Polling sucks. The media needs to stop using it so much. It’s not real statistics & can never be. “Who would vote for if there was a completely not real election today?” Why do we accept this as useful information? Lazy-ass news directors.

Jonathan Goldsbie@goldsbie.bsky.social

Chow's margins in the final polls, in the field over the weekend, were: Mainstreet: +6 Pallas: +10 Pollara: +9 Forum: +10 Liaison: +8 The actual turned out to be +13. Both Pallas and Forum successfully called it within their respective margins of error.

Ohhh…I’d love to see these charts for the 905 “cities”. Very multi-culti places, with very one-culti representation. Anyways, Toronto, we’re getting there.

Jonathan Goldsbie@goldsbie.bsky.social

There are lots of ways to measure diversity, but looking at just the portion of councillors who are BIPOC, this is the most diverse group that Toronto has ever elected at once:

He’ll probably get this call, but maybe plum chair spots shouldn’t go to rookies. Prove yourself first. Especially dissatisfied Liberals who didn’t know enough to leave the party ages ago.

Sometimes I feel bad for Mississauga and its abysmal list of choices. It’s great that both Parrish and Crombie flopped, and maybe Tedjo will be good? I dunno, the guy wanted to be ONLP leader and failed at that. Then the backu job is a low turnout mayorship? Not exactly inspiring.

J. Kelly Nestruck@nestruck.bsky.social

CTV Election desk projects Alvin Tedjo has won the Mississauga mayoral race.

Anyways, he promises a lot of progressive things, but Liberals royally suck at living up to that. I don’t know why I care about Mississauga’s election, but it would be nice if Toronto’s biggest burb started to actually become the progressive city it tells everyone it is & we had a real ally.

Where all my fiscal conservatives at?

Troy Pavlek@troypavlek.ca

The UCP might make Edmonton pay up to $170M to rip out its own bike lanes. I've heard reports that the UCP has been asking for costs of full network removals. City numbers put that at $150-170M This is the same gov't that just spent $130M on a glorified opinion poll.

The end of Nunziata has been a long time coming. Thank goodness.

Jonathan Goldsbie@goldsbie.bsky.social

Turnover at a glance: Nunziata –> Padovani Perks –> Chan McNally Saxe –> Layton Moise –> Stikuts Fletcher –> Ehrhardt Bradford –> Erskine-Smith Myers –> Chen Other than the loss of Myers, this is going to be a pretty strong Council for Chow.

Canadians, we need to take notice of this. We don’t fight with much might, but look where strength in numbers, conviction based on real needs for the people, look where it can get you. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

Tip of the cap to the life of the great Walter Koenig. If you live Trek, then you love Chekov and Koenig. Grateful for his performances. RIP.

My pal Danielle Koenig shared that her father Walter Koenig passed away last night at age 90. A performer whose kindness and warmth shone through the screen. He will be well remembered.

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

Eric Bauza wasn't just an incredible actor. He fought for all of us, for the preservation of art, to see that real art got to shine, even in the face of corporate greed. The importance of him using his platform and his voice for the betterment of art cannot be understated. Goodnight, sir.

Jerome Persaud reposted

R.I.P. to Eric Bauza Out of all the actors who voiced the rabbit, you were the one who came the closest to Mel's original voice. You should've been around for 40 more years to voice him.

This is awful news. A good Scarborough lad. Beyond his famous voice work, he started Retrokid. Their tees litter my closet. RIP to a good one.

ToonHive@toonhive.bsky.social

Eric Bauza has sadly passed away at the age of 46, his family confirms in new Instagram post.

This is good and all, but they have two seats. Probably no party status (not sure of the threshold in BC but seems like not enough). The Greens haven’t made real inroads in decades. They aren’t “equipped” to do anything.

Andrew Kurjata@akurjata.ca

B.C. Green Party Leader Emily Lowan: "We are the only party equipped to stand against the Conservatives and what they stand for... Over the next four years our job is to be a voice for the many people who will be harmed by their policies"

We, as Canadians, not just BC need to start talking about what rules we’ll accept in order to improve turnout.

Stewart Prest@stewartprest.ca

Turnout is shockingly low with 85% of ballot boxes in. We might not crack 50%, and are miles away from the 58% turnout in 2024.

With all the dum-dum moves and choices by the political leaders aside, there’s still a whole bunch of Canadians willing to choose the party that sells us out, and kills our environment, and FOR SURE will balloon BC’s deficit & debt. And seemingly half of them do it out of anger of schadenfreude. 😩

Andrew Kurjata@akurjata.ca

Well, David Eby did say B.C. needed a strong majority government

I can’t stand these false insinuations that politicians make. The city doesn’t do anything without local consultation.

Matt Elliott@graphicmatt.com

On homelessness, Chow notes Bradford voted against a shelter in Etobicoke. Bradford says he's supported shelters, but will oppose cases where "the work hasn't been done with community, when the consultation hasn't taken place, when we haven't brought the community onside."

People have said to my face that they like how Doug Ford fights against Trump.

Joe Mitchell: "Thank God you're building the ballroom. Thank God you're getting rid of those awful bike lanes. We don't ride bicycles in Iowa."

OK, so Musk is bigoted trashole, first of all. The thruster landing is objectively cool. There’s zero chance the roadster drove up that ramp to the end on its own…gravity gets it before full inversion. And no flying here…it fell once released & thrusters landed it.

The Verge@theverge.com

Tesla shows off the new Roadster by racing it up ramp and using jets to help it land. Elon Musk says it can “basically fly like a rocket.” www.theverge.com/transportati...

As others out here have surmised, this probably is just wow investors into a long-planned merger of the companies cuz nobody buys Teslas anymore & they need that nasa money to survive.

I love dunking on the Dodgers, but they do have B2B chips and made it back to the NLCS. They didn’t make all of their money in that inning. (Although, a dollars per inning break down would be a wild eye-opener).

CUPE Alberta@cupealberta.bsky.social

Albertans were asked to guess how much of our healthcare budget goes to non-permanent residents. The guesses? 15% to 50%. The reality? Just 1%. The budget strain isn't coming from immigrants. It's coming from UCP government choices. Vote NO on October 19 #ableg #canpoli #abpoli

It’s weird to do a bunch of announcements with the separation premier and then do a bunch of don’t-separate ads & campaigns, right? Like, that doesn’t jive, does it?

Every time I see construction workers doing things that are destructive to the people, I get pissed. They are unionized workers that seem to care less about anyone. They take all the benefits of those who fought before them and give little back. WHY AREN’T YOU STANDING UP? This one is a safety issue

Tom Flood@tomflood.bsky.social

remember this photo the next time you hear our authorities preaching bullshit road safety to our kids. Nobody spoke up for the well being of our kids: Look both ways kids because we looked the other way

There are four lanes for cars in this image….somehow that’s not enough. Nevertheless, are they simply going to erase the paint and remove the posts? Will they paint in a travel lane? Parking? Cuz the city usually does that, which they aren’t doing, so……

Tom Flood@tomflood.bsky.social

Fuck. MTO vioalting construction permit by doing this now and not post 6pm.

In my getting-old-ness, I’ve noticed a lot more confusion between the different tiers of gov. My current case in point is the level of support the Ontario Liberals get in polls….huh? Just exactly what have they done to get that support back? It’s all a Carney bump…which should not be a thing.

Shawn Micallef@shawnmicallef.bsky.social

The political dynamic in Toronto (& other Cdn cities) is: local politicians can attend to window dressing, but deeper issues & problems are controlled & created by higher orders of gov't. However people vote for municipal politicians based on those problems & don't connect other levels to them.
