My mom and stepdad are from the same diaspora group as Zohran Mamdani’s dad (same like “my stepdad was kicked out of the same town and knows some of his classmates”) and apparently the New York Times doesn’t understand how diaspora works, so I am going to tell you a little about my mom’s people!

President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Tuesday plan to show off a newly arrived oil tanker filled with Venezuelan crude to be processed in Texas refineries, according to a congressional aide and two U.S. officials. https://to.pbs.org/4ssUlEA

I made this joke on threads and 200+ white people are trying to "educate" me via cyberbullying, why is the internet like this 😬

How much money did the iodine lobby have to pay to make every non-iodized salt say "DOES NOT SUPPLY IODINE" on the label.

The American medical care system is great because you can need a routine refill for a medication you've taken for 3+ years, and you won't be able to get it without a doctor's appointment, and it will take three weeks to make an appointment, and when you show up they'll tell you the doctor is out.

So you might need to pay $100+ to refill a prescription that, again, you have been taking for 3+ years. We're not talking opioids or other controlled substances, we're talking a basic non-addictive but DESPERATELY NEEDED medication whose only side effect is making you sleepy.

Did I mention in this scenario that you especially need your meds not disrupted because you're recovering from medical care which you received in India, on account of how the American medical system is SO AWESOME that it's cheaper (AND FASTER) to pay for a flight to India and get medical care there?

No one will attempt to contact you in advance to tell you the doctor is out, no one else will be available to refill your prescription, and the next appointment will be in weeks. Furthermore, urgent care WILL NOT TELL YOU what an urgent care visit would cost.

I realize petitions are less effective than many other things but the fact is no one's being released from ICE custody unless the public makes a giant fuss about it.

I have a great fondness for old songs whose lyrics are so full of Vibes and Details that you can tell there's a story there, but you have absolutely no clue what that story is.

Examples: Avalanche by Leonard Cohen, Cry Little Sister by Gerard McMann, Lady Samantha by Elton John, Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana (writing it out, it seems like this might specifically be a white guy thing? are there examples from other demographics?)

Every time I get back to morning journaling when it's been a while I'm like "wow how did I ever maintain sanity without this" (and then I frequently look back and go "I mostly didn't")

Somali food is so fascinating because with some of it I'm like "yup we have this exact thing in Tanzania" and with some I'm like "wow you sure were colonized by Italy huh"

The English are so incredibly bad at food that the primary culinary legacy of being colonized by the English (besides, y'know, famine) is just stuff stolen from other colonies, while places colonized by France and Italy tend to incorporate like. Baguettes and pasta.

A cool thing full of cool stories by cool people!!

Table of contents and cover reveal for volume 2 is now up at thinkweirder.com! This will be the best book I've ever released, with stories by Adrian Tchaikovsky, Peter Watts, Isabel J. Kim, Greg Egan, Nancy Kress, Thomas Ha, and others. I keep re-reading the stories, they're all so good.

Obviously screw this guy but kinda makes me wonder what Trump's other billionaire buddies are up to

Elon Musk has assembled a presidential-level field operation this midterm cycle, underscoring the extent to which he has taken over the get-out-the-vote effort for the Republican party.

Q2. I've written about the experiences of soldiers in the past, because I was taught to prioritize the emotional experiences of the ones doing the killing over the ones being killed. I'm increasingly uninterested in that. These days my books center the experiences of civilians. #HorrorWritersChat

His shivering, tear-dimmed eyes stare at you. At that red cross plastered over your chest. You can't breathe. He's your first. Wars scar soldiers' souls forever. How would you explore that in a psychological horror about war? The loss of self, the flashbacks, or something else? #HorrorWritersChat

The fun thing about the post-hospital dietary restrictions is that I get to try food I wouldn't otherwise have tried, e.g. I just poached eggs for the first time (they came out pretty well!)

Hey so with Trump casually telling a cheering crowd that it’d be fine if Iran blows up Los Angeles or San Diego, I’m gonna need y’all to get real familiar with “false flag operation” and make sure everyone else in your life is, too.
