I wanted to be Alan, I think. Whenever I heard about him I was transported to a dream world where the only thing that mattered was making the best classical instruments without interruption. I know nothing about that art but I expect it involves chasing goals you can't ever put into words.

TIL that people are buying things from Maplin. Or maybe it's that journalists put the question to Maplin without realising that it's just a brand of a fairly obscure online shop and not a familiar sight in Britain's towns and cities.

Yay, stupid car bluetooth module we don't use has died and the car's POST notices it and flashes the odometer to show something is wrong. Apparently I can "unmap" that but I don't have the necessary tool. *sigh*

Oh and even if I do that I also need to remove the plug from the socket or it'll drain the battery and it's behind a panel in the rear of the car that requires *loadsa* disassembly. I hate all of this.

Sudden Thameside Radio flashback, perhaps from spotting The Intrepid Birdman driving his crazy car in town the other week. I can never remember the title or artists for this song so I usually find it by searching for Googling "woman running through a maze"

For any pedants, it happens when my mouse pointer happens to collide with the reel, which happens to be a strip that's almost as wide as my window so I can't get past it without carefully avoiding it. Last time I checked, a mouse had buttons that you clicked if you wanted something to happen. Also…

R8 needs selecting or perhaps a partial trimmer resistor, to get stability across all frequencies. The wrong value can make the ALC hunt, which causes "squegging". It'll be within a hundred ohms of 500Ω though, I reckon. Usual gain in the control loop/saturation of control loop trade.

Set right, the level doesn't even vary with fairly big supply voltage changes, drop below about 6V and the output increases because the gain reduction feedback amplifier runs out of steam. It's so ridiculously unstoppable that it'll still oscillate from a 0.8V supply.

The changes in Europe in response to global politics and trade pressures have rather exposed the lie of a seamless trade bloc. Even within the EU, trading across national borders requires jumping through tax and regulatory hoops that put small and domestic companies at a huge disadvantage.

A Franklin oscillator with a levelling loop. I made a different one yesterday, this one is being strange, working at a higher frequency than expected.

I've suddenly learned why Green Lanes is plural, why Harringay and Harringey are both right and what the Harringay Ladder is. That is all. Too much information in a short time.

Google's magic 8-ball snippet just decided to answer me in Indonesian, which was not useful. Use this technology or you'll be left behind.

I have been made aware, once more, of the parasites preying on people who don't check whether they're on the Land Registry site or a third party that'll charge them an extra £100 or so for the same information. I don't have the energy to be angry about this.

And then I get to explain that the infrequently used HP inkjet printer is printing blank sheets of paper because it's out of black but it doesn't know it's out of black because the black has probably dried up so I email it to myself so I can print on our ancient budget colour laser.

Sorry, but the new 2CV looks like a Fiat 500 wearing silly underwear . It's not a minimalist car that will carry eggs across a ploughed field and that's what we need right now, what with all the egg bandits on our paved roads.
