The recently published PHP vulnerability affects all PHP versions between 5.4 and 8.4 - basically a decade of PHP releases. Wordpress runs on PHP. Drupal runs on PHP. My own presskit() runs on PHP. If you run PHP anywhere, you should go check which version it is -now-, and update if affected.

ICYMI—fix your websites NOW (or take them offline). As Ian notes, don’t think your website or your Wordpress install is too small to be a target for hacking.

Because four of the Justices have book contracts with a party's corporate parent, the Supreme Court LACKS A QUORUM to hear BMG v. Vetter, and one of the worst copyright decisions in recent memory is affirmed by default. It's just one bad look after another. www.supremecourt.gov/docket/docke...

I had no idea the SC had a quorum requirement. I assumed if only 1 justice wasn't recused it would just be that justice ruling. Also, shocked that anyone on the court bothers to recuse themselves for conflicts anymore 👀

I honestly don't understand how people survive with just one small laptop screen for their computing. I have two 27" monitors and sometimes that's not enough 😅

(I'm not acknowledging people for whom a phone is their only computing device. I legitimately don't understand how they do *anything* digital besides consuming social media)

As far as I can tell, the power supply on my Bambu printer just decided to buy the farm. Wonderful timing. And the wiki article for how to replace these things looks like a huge pain in the ass 🙃

Was really hoping it was the fuse, but no such luck. Tests fine on the multimeter (not like I have spares anyway... to digikey!)

Late last night, we heard a car engine idling outside for a bit, followed by a loud clanging noise. When we went out to look, we saw the car at the end of the street turning away. Didn't see what made the noise. Everything looked fine.

Went outside today... realized one of the gutters was smashed in and had ripped itself out of the bracket. There was a pumpkin at the bottom of the stairs with the stem broken off several feet away. I think that car didn't like our rainbow porch and threw a pumpkin at the house. WTF??

PSA: The latest NVIDIA App update adds a Default-ON option that allows AI Agents to control the app... Might want to turn it off.. Even aside from being lame AI features, that feels like making security even worse by defaulting it ON.

Yeah, I fully expect to just... not like/watch this. As will many fans, because it will probably be completely unlike Stargate. And it will fail because of that, and they'll say, "I guess no one wants Stargate," and shelve it for another 20 years 🫠

RJB / Mallacore 🇨🇦@rjb-mallacore.bsky.social

I'll admit I have so many mixed feelings on this. Yes I want a new Stargate series but I really wish we got the canceled version. So many of the original writers would have been involved and I'm sure they won't at this point.

It's wild how quickly Google has given up on any semblance of caring about user experience. Google Maps used to be (mostly) great. Now it just says "turn right" with no street name or anything. No highway exit numbers.

I feel like this coincided with them removing the google assistant, but I regularly drive with the navigation voice turned off, so I'm not sure. It really sucks, though. No clue why they did this, but I assume it has something to do with letting AI write their products now, like Microsoft.

I've had it say "slight left" when I'm just continuing straight, and then say nothing when it absolutely wants me to bear in some direction that doesn't feel like straight.

"We got married with 100+ of our closest friends and family there" I'm sorry, but there's no way you are 'close' with 100+ people. That's impossible.

I know the plexiglass walls at check-in desks are entirely health theatre, but after 6.5 years it's pretty jarring to walk into the cancer center and suddenly see them gone Like, I know they did nothing, but MGH removing them as sickness season ramps up feels like really on-brand messaging for them

It's like the several years where, when sickness season started, they would put up big signs that said "Masks are *OPTIONAL*" by the (long since gone) mask dispensers. It's like the people in charge want to make it very clear that they don't care about keeping people healthy unless they get paid

Man, I wish I could take NSAIDs. Dealing with swelling/inflammation after my procedure last week, and all I can do is Tylenol and ice 🫠 Stupid Crohn's

"But NSAIDs are anti-inflammatory, wouldn't they help with an inflammatory disease like Crohn's?" Nope! They help most inflammation, but they make gut inflammation worse! Aren't bodies fun? 🙃

Anyone have experience using alternate assistants on Android? Setting reminders through Assistant has been a major boon to my ADHD management, so I really don't appreciate them ripping it away unless I give their AI access to all of my data...

Literally the only thing I care about is setting task reminders. I don't want to do anything else. Just yell at my phone to remind me of something at a given time, and have it show up under tasks on my calendar.

Ah, I see. Other assistants *can* use wake words, but they can't use the low power hardware path that "hey Google" uses, so 3rd party assistants drain the battery. Great. Of course.

I do have Home Assistant, which I know has a voice assistant I could turn on... but can I set that to have a verbal wake word on my phone? I've heard Google restricts it to just their own assistant (now AI).

I'm immensely proud to announce that my texture library that's been in the making for nearly a decade is now available on my itchio store for indie devs to purchase commercial licenses. makkon.itch.io

Ok, that was fun. With the exception of DRP (we never did a physical release) and Zoombinis (who knows where it is), I still have the original boxes/media, too 😅 I don't care that two of them are unplayable dead MMOs. I'm not throwing those away!

I am forever mad that we never got more of the story for Earth & Beyond. I think that was the first MMO I *really* played. There was an exodus to EVE when it shutdown, but it wasn't the same at all. I definitely had a Stargate thing going with the names 😅

I adored the Star Wars Galaxies profession tree, and it's a shame it was scrapped for the more mainstream "pick a class forever" style. There was a long post-mortem article about it some years ago, which was really interesting. I hope some game tries that again.

My Home Assistant just discovered some neighbor's smart toothbrush. And while I'm *not* going to do something with it... I kinda want to know what I *could* do with it 😅 Same as when someone nearby got smart lightbulbs. It was tempting.

This recovery has been way less of a pain than I expected from stories I've read online. Which means I did too many things today thinking I was mostly fine, and now I'm regretting it 🙃

"A settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit against CVS which you may be a party to" OK... "Submit a claim. You are entitled to UP TO $5" *squints at email* "or UP TO $10 if you do a bunch of work for it" Yeah, go fuck yourself.

The last one (no idea what it was for) just sent me a payment for $37 and change. At least I was able to buy a boardgame with that.

I've had CS 5.5 all these years, but I only just figured out that Adobe Encore is a DVD/blu-ray builder. Which, I mean, *is* convenient because my mom wanted a DVD of some old home movies she had transferred 😅

I have a medical procedure tomorrow. It's supposed to be minimally invasive, take it easy for a week, very low risk of complications. But, of course, you see people talk about the complications because the people who had none don't post about it. So my brain is just catastrophizing 🫠
