Playing two classic #weekendsingles recorded at 'Hitsville DN4' (Axis Studios, Doncaster) to compensate for a lacklustre Wednesday leaving DN4 with nothing this afternoon.

An article about Bridlington beach running immersion baptisms popped up in my feed, which inspired me to dig out some Washington Phillips. This 45 of 'Take Your Burden To The Lord And Leave It There' issued by The Great Pop Supplement came with a beautiful printred acetate insert. #weekendsingles

Good memories of seeing Honeycrack live at Sheffield Uni nearly 30 years ago, supported by Jocasta. (I was particularly pleased that my 'amended' Doncaster College ID was accepted at the bar) #weekendsingles

The Kids Are On Their Holidays - a 'bedsit dubbed bootleg' of Belle & Sebastian's Bowlie Weekender set that did the rounds in my uni Indiepop Soc. in Autumn 99. The b-side is filled out with Looper's excellent Spaceboy Dream #3 single on Sub Pop (very hard to find back in 1999!) #CasSunday

Saw elsewhere that this Cradle of Filth album turned 30 recently, so got it out of the loft and giving it a play on #CDFriday for the first time in about 28 years. Even more preposterous than I remember, but good fun nonetheless.

Blimey, tunng's remarkable murder ballad 'Jenny Again' has just turned 20. I remember it described in one review as "a modern Double Indemnity, down in the willow garden." Sit inside a Little Chef, look around but not at her... #weekendsingles

Giving 'The Big Five' by Usurper (Singing Knives, 2016) a listen for #CasSunday which was described in Product magazine as falling "somewhere between Samuel Beckett, The Goons and Tex Avery by way of John Hurt’s experimental sound designer in Jerzy Skolimowski’s neglected 1978 film, The Shout"

Happy 30th birthday to Tiger's 'Shining In The Wood' - Fierce Panda really were on unstopable form in 1996. This followed excellent singles from Kinickie, 3 Colours Red, Pullover and Dweeb. What a time to be alive and with paper round money. #weekendsingles

Lots of lovely words for Steve Barrow on this site over the past couple of days. Thanks to Blood & Fire for the opportunity to get Fisherman on a 45 twenty years ago. Rhythm & Sound on the edit. #WeekendSingles

I can't believe 'Lloyd, I'm Ready To Be Heartbroken' was released 20 years ago this week. In a properly functioning universe, this would've been a number one hit record. Pop perfection. #Weekendsingles

One of my all time favourites, 'Abba on the Jukebox' by Trembling Blue Stars, has just turned 30. Thirty years on and I've been to a rainy Cley-next-the-Sea but still haven't walked in the ruins of Binham Priory. Maybe in the next 30... #weekendsingles

This newly discovered and restored test pressing of Crossroads is indeed spectacular. However, the 10" issued by Aldabra in the late 80s also sounds great. Everything sounds better cut at 45! #weekendsingles

Great to have some new Misty In Roots on the turntable, which comes with the newly reissued 'Live at the Counter Eurovision' package. Would've preferred it at 45 on a 12" rather than at 33 on a 7" but that's a minor quibble! #roots #reggae #WeekendSingles

Spending a pleasant #CasSunday afternoon kicking back and working through the fried psyc acid folk blues of MV & EE's 'Road Trip' tape pack (Blackest Rainbow, 2009). Could listen to them jamming on Poor Boy all day long. Bought from the much-missed #Sheffield institution Rare & Racy.

Went mad yesterday on the houseplant front. Reminded me of this... holding their own on the devastated desk beside the abandoned diary and bright stickered charts - Leontia Flynn, Taking Liberties, Cape #booksky #poetry #poetrysky

I didn't think 'Hard to Handle' could ever possibly be improved... until the funky drummer got shoved under it. Marvellous work on this new Umbo Edit on Soul Flip. #weekendsingles #soul

Valentine's #weekendsingles so giving an annual spin to Lion-el Glitchie produces the V/VM Valentine and Bill Wells & Aidan Moffat's Valentine's Wishes (which came in a lovely card and envelope).

Blimey - it's 30 years since the wonderful Blood & Fire reissued Heart Of The Congos on a deluxe 2CD package. One of the great albums (wish they'd used the original sleeve though!) #reggae #cdfriday #nowplaying

Had some technical issues with my old laptop during the week - remembering this prevented me from throwing it out of the window. This is the Computer World Software Helpline, please make sure you can see your screen. Simon Armitage, Killing Time, f&f #booksky #poetry #poetrysky

Pleased to tick this Stetsasonic 45 off the wantlist this week. Possibly the best Sally song, apart from Lonnie Donegan's version of 'Sally Don't You Grieve' of course. #weekendsingles

Found this book in an old crate earlier. "The technical ability must work on the inspiration. Technical skill alone can produce a flawless work but not true greatness. That comes from beyond." I used to say this all the time when sat with friends listening to jazz records as a student. #booksky

Jumping on the trending 2016 bandwagon and attempting to impress my eldest by playing out 4 of my favourite #weekendsingles from that year. Met with a shrug. The Hayman Kupa Band, Youth Of America, Mozes and the Firstborn / Roland Cosio split and best of all, a repress of Iganda's Mark Of Slavery

Just back from the shops, this seems appropriate: cold feet the rain drips into itself on its round trip round heels Tom Raworth, Penguin Modern Poets 19 (cover photo by Alan Spain - who did amazing covers for Penguin Crime) #booksky #poetry #poetrysky

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.... keeping warm inside by playing some weather-appropriate #weekendsingles Dark was the night cold was the ground Lovesick snowman Cold & wet Fallen snow

With thanks to Santa, I'm giving the house a right old wobble to this compilation of Jon E Cash's early 00s plates. Still sounds revolutionary 20 odd years later. Great job by Sneaker Social Club - sounds huge, compared to my old tapes of John Peel and the Breezeblock. #Grime #Dubstep #Bassmusic
