Lemokey US vs. Keychron DE. Same product, same company, same shipping origin, very different prices. More companies are stealthily doing this.

AI pushing code to prod? Trivial. Make AI solve outages. That's where the real value is. Until it's able to do that, it's a hype.

And there you have it - how I use the Stream Deck as a non-streamer. It's a very fun device with many possibilities, and perfectly suitable for non-streamers. If you can justify the cost, you should get one. I think the Neo is more than enough for my usage scenario, but there's other models.

On the second page, there's some fanciness. I have shortcuts for my preferred playlists. Creating this was a bit of a discovery, but it's basically shortcuts I created with the Shortcuts app, to open the albums, and then I right-click the shortcut and select "add to dock". This creates an app!

(cont.) This app will be saved on your user's "Applications" folder, then you just need an Open action to open this file - done. Could be simpler and supported via the plugin, but it's great that it works.

(cont.) - Buttons to control previous and next videos, play/pause, and volume. Those don't require window focus and it's honestly great.

All those profiles have a "home" button that takes me back to my default profile. The rest are options I want to use while watching videos (mostly YouTube): - Buttons to go back or advance 10 seconds (it's just a Hotkey action for the left and right arrows, it requires focus in the window to work)

The second page is not that interesting and I'm considering removing it. It has Some timers (that I never use) as well as brightness controls for the Stream Deck, and an option for Sleep.

The Apps folder is not that special, has just the apps I use the most on my personal Mac. It also has a duplicate Center Window command, because I use it a lot and want to adjust app windows as soon as I open them.

On my Default Profile, I have the following shortcuts on the first page: - A folder for my apps - Another folder for my profiles - Weather forecast for my current city, as well as the forecast for the next days, and the forecast for my hometown - A shorcut for the emojis app on Mac

(cont.) - A multi action to use some keyboard shortcuts to almost maximize and center the current window (I use Rectangle for window management) - A shortcut for my browser (Vivaldi)

First of all, I want to cover the list of plugins and icon packs I have installed: I use the Apple Music and Weather plugins. The others are unused at the moment. The icon packs I got from the marketplace: Neon Grids, Anaglyph, Entypo+, Hexaza, Animated GIF Pack, and WaveLink.

My approach on using icons is: I type what I'm searching for in the icon library search, and I go with the vibes. I use the GIF pack to add some sassiness, like on the "center window" command we're gonna explore soon.

You configure the Stream Deck using the Stream Deck app, which has to be running all the time (the device doesn't have internal storage for the configured actions). This can be problematic in environments where software installation is not possible.

This is the Stream Deck app, showing my Default Profile (the "front page" of your Stream Deck). I'll describe what each option does, don't worry. At the top, you can click the colored icon to access the marketplace, where you can download plugins, icons, and pre-configured profiles.

First of all, it was not easy to reason on spending this much money on a device that is focused on streamers. Today, a few weeks after getting it, I'm convinced it's relevant to me, but it's definitely something we can live without. Still, it's a nice to have and it makes your setup look good.

I keep checking the TRMNL and can't justify a 190 euros price tag. At this rate, I wonder, "Why not go with something like the Boox Palma?" TRMNL is a great product, but hopefully there's space for lower pricing.

"Error rates compound exponentially in multi-step workflows. 95% reliability per step = 36% success over 20 steps. Production needs 99.9%+." "Context windows create quadratic token costs. Long conversations become prohibitively expensive at scale." utkarshkanwat.com/writing/bett...

The industry that complains about software developers not being committed enough to their jobs is the same industry whose virtual eyes gleam at the thought of no longer needing software developers. Make it make sense.

It's unsettling how functional programming feels like rocket science to me. I wonder how long it takes for an individual to be highly effective and fast at delivering, and if it's worth using it instead of something like Golang. Go gets a lot of hate, but it got the "deliver quickly" just right.

This observation comes from two decades in the software industry and exposure to all kinds of languages, including professional experience with Scala and personal experience with Elixir and Gleam. It's hard for me to think the way FP seems to require.

One thing that I really, really, REALLY miss from the Windows world is IrfanView. To me, it's the ultimate viewing experience for images. Impressive how they solved it a decade ago. It should be there in the hall of fame together with VLC.

And yes, this was all to use Steam Link from my living room connected to my gaming PC that sits on my desk at my bedroom.

A trip to the store, a cable through the wall, and four hours later, all my Deco devices are working over Ethernet! It was so worth it.
