Karaiko LA thoughts again: Satomi became the one to invite Kyouji to go out and says “karaoke iko” I think this is where he differs so much from karaiko animanga Satomi, in the sense that he’s more straightforward and takes more responsibility for his actions, instead of getting dragged along.

The karaiko movie adding more umbrella scenes are particularly interesting to me because of the jp romance of walking/sharing an umbrella. We see it in the anime/manga about Kyouji coming up to Satomi once, but in the LA movie it’s used as a plot device to move their relationship forward:

Viewing this with a kyosato lens: Satomi offers Kyouji a safe space to rest, one that’s not mired by his dangerous day-to-day as a criminal. Overtime their relationship blossoms and develops. Satomi admits in the final chapters of famiresu that he wants to be with Kyouji forever.

The sharing umbrella metaphor, coupled with the imagery of the turtle and crane, really just points to them spending the rest of their lives together in old age. 🥹💓🙏🏼🥰 I just have silly kyosato thoughts thank you for listening

I’m going to pull the turtle and crane folklore up: how the crane has been flying through rain nonstop and can’t be find anywhere safe to land. How a young turtle surfaces and offers his back for the crane to rest on, briefly. They become good friends, but then years later a drought comes.

The crane musters its strength and brings the turtle with him, to a land with no drought, and where they both can live freely. They look after each other well into their old age. Their story is one that stands the test of time, and they’re often paired as symbols of longevity.

Satomi forgets his umbrella and Kyouji returns it to him. How his classmates knew it was right away. How Satomi asked for a new one but his parents give him a similar one, except this time with Kyouji’s crane motif.

This happens off-scene: but at the start, Kyouji is drenched in the rain presumably because he doesn’t have an umbrella. They arrive at the karaoke booth with Satomi dry and Kyouji toweling off himself. Picture this: Kyouji and Satomi sharing the turtle umbrella together.

25Satomi starts strength training and squats to make caregiving easier 😭🥹 (according to Google) 50Kyouji’s mind is in the gutter thinking it might be for something ero… No you fool, he’s preparing to take care of you in old age 😭 Satomi really said in sickness and in health 😭

Big tsuntsun Satomi, just say you wanna take care of him………. My favorite flavor of kyosato is ones were Kyouji’s in his fifties and up 🥺🥺🥺🥺 I’ll write about it …

I love reading more of Satomi’s interactions with Mana and Maruyama. I could definitely write Morisato… post gig Morita without glasses was kinda hot, telling mimi to stay over? Hmmmm while he’s wearing Kyouji’s 2million watch? Hmmmmm!

Satomi wants to let go time and again, but he can’t. I think he makes peace with that, and that’s shown in the way he looks more open during the ending. Kyouji’s always going to be there for Satomi in whatever capacity he’s needed, as long as it doesn’t impinge on the boundaries he’s

The only times he says no to Satomi is if it’s for his sake. Satomi asks for a hug wordlessly, but Kyouji does it in a way that’s still trying to put boundaries between them. So now they’re at a stalemate, the same as before. They’ll spend time together, eating at restaurants, without naming this

I think famiresu ends in a very poignant way. They care for each other. Kyouji’s willing to dive off a bridge just to go get Satomi’s coins. It’s so absurd that Satomi can’t help but laugh. It’s a rare sight too that Kyouji is speechless , staring at Satomi.

Up first, so he does so inevitably. Even if the questions are answered by another question. Even when Satomi proposes to get his name removed. Or when he says there’s no guarantee that Kyouji will come to him, Kyouji doesn’t say no, or doesn’t refute him.

He’ll remove the tattoo because it’s what Satomi wants. He’ll be with Satomi because it’s what Satomi wants, but if he were given a choice, I think he’ll still choose to runaway, thinking it will be for Satomi’s sake.

and nothing more. He always just says yes to whatever Satomi asks of him, unless it has to involve his life as a yakuza. There’s a few lines that also allude to the hold it has on him: that even if Satomi wanted to die, he should never get into this line of work. It begs the question, at what point

was Kyouji in that he sunk so low that he became a yakuza? There’s so much of how and who he is that gets shown but it’s just masked over by that half-smiling face of his. There’s parts where Satomi thinks Kyouji’s just avoiding things deliberately and he always has to be the one to bring things

every month. He knows where Satomi lives and works, but he won’t show up out of the blue to kidnap him. I like how we’re shown more of Kyouji as an actual yakuza, interviewing people for the business, reporting to the boss, or threatening the reporter… It’s like his life is just split between

being a Yakuza and being with Satomi. I think it’s interesting how a lot of his expressions are placid smiles, which are also irritating. He’s trying his best to hold Satomi at arms length. Especially the line “until you don’t need me”, letting Satomi dictate the boundaries of their relationship

He says we shouldn’t see each other anymore, but then tries to hold on to him. He says as long as he’s alive, it’s fine, but he wants to be with him forever. He says for Kyouji to quit the yakuza, but also says that there’s no guarantee that Kyouji will choose him even if he does.

He asks him to remove the tattoo, so he could finally let go, but doesn’t push for it to happen. A lot of Satomi’s push-pull is more outward, while I think Kyouji’s is more inward. Compared to before, it seems like the onus lies in Satomi to imitate their meetings, even though he’s in Kamata

Satomi’s straightforward with his feelings. He’s a little introspective, but also sounds it out with others. He has a tendency to zone out and not notice things around him if he can’t be bothered, but he tries to pretend

I think it’s interesting how he’s decisive but also impulsive. His relationship with Kyouji is a lot of push-pull, with him usually setting the tone of their interactions instead of the other way around, a bit of a difference from karaiko.

There’s this weird discourse about how some people are larping about being oppressed because they were bullied before for liking anime/nerdy stuff… because apparently that doesn’t happen (??) Felt weird to me how some people police others lived experiences just because they didn’t have the same

idk how it is now, but 20+ yrs ago you were totally ostracized if you even liked something that was out of the norm, doesn’t matter if it was anime, books, rpgs or games. It’s “cool” to be in fandom now and being a stan is more or less normal (ish) but I assure you it wasn’t back then.

Anyway can’t believe it’s been 20+ yrs since (the first fanfic I wrote was a haoxlyserg captive fic lmfao) lys in that cute xlaws booty shorts uniform? man lol pr*ship even when I was a kid fr.
