its kinda rough to say but geoguessr is becoming not fun anymore with my favorite mode (moving) becoming kinda impossible for me to progress in. I simply cannot beat instasenders until I make massive improvements at quick country/region identification, but that's not what I'm interested in! argh

oh yeah and so it's clear, i'm not mad at any of the players who are beating me at moving. as long as they're not cheating, they're just using the strategies that win them games. geoguessr is at fault for sidelining moving/pinpointing for faster, more meta-focus than knowledge-focused gameplay

likely I will either adapt or just quit competitive geoguessr. I still like using it for challenges and stuff, but duels have become a pretty soul-crushing experience when NM/NMPZ pros have taken control of it

im not sure what it is exactly that has made me drop so far down in geoguessr moving duels rating, but what i notice is that i seem to play most rounds for the 5k, have health + multi advantage, but my opponent still has enough multis to deal damage, so when I miss/don't recognize some info, i lose

I feel like a reasonable balance could be something like having an initial 30s buffer window so instasending is discouraged, or just extending the after-guess timer to 30s

Another thing that should be implemented is a tie range. Something that grows exponentially, so 4999 beats 4998 but 3999 doesn't beat 3998, it ties. I'm not really sure how the math/logic works out in implementing something like that but I think it's already been attempted before

just to put some actual data to this so its not all "vibes" based, I've won 3/9 of the last moving duels Out of the ones I lost, in 3/6 I won more rounds (had more multis), and 4/6 I had more health than my opponent at the start of the final round So... I'm definitely playing well, just losing

I still believe that for moving duels, Geoguessr should extend the timer after a guess is made in some way b/c 15s often allows the opponent to force NM and that negates potential strategies that would matter if there was more focus on 5king (but individual mults have already helped with that a lot)

it's unfortunate because i think i could have a pretty high rating if i tweaked my playstyle a bit to play a riskier game with less focus on 5ks, but I find that kinda boring and prefer to focus on making sure I know enough to feel confident to send in a way that will at least give me a multi
