On this day in 1621, Christiane Grahame was taken from The Bishop's Castle, next to Glasgow Cathedral, and executed for witchcraft. Her story is the inspiration for our latest single, Cast the Glamour (an old Scots term for making magic). Our song takes a different path. Released on 4 December!

Tomorrow night, we're playing Beacon Arts Centre and we're delighted to announce that our special guest will be DEFNE, an Istanbul-born, Haddington-based singer-songwriter. For this performance, she'll present an intimate solo set. Doors at 8pm. Tickets at the link below. Come along! Pass it on!

Many thanks to Afternoiz for the online report about our debut album (link below). We sing songs about Glasgow although we have always had an international perspective so it's amazing that we'll be introducing our music to Greece, courtesy of Music Kitchen Records. afternoiz.gr/music/music-...

We walked down to the statue of La Pasionaria yesterday to join the International Brigade Memorial Trust as they paid their respects to the Glaswegians who fought and died in the Spanish Civil War. A Passion Flower’s Lament is written from the perspective of the statue: video at the link below.

In 1981 Nelson Mandela was awarded The Freedom the City of Glasgow whilst languishing in a prison cell. Yesterday they unveiled this statue celebrating his life. It's a reminder that even when victory seems impossible there are always those who struggle for a better world. And that they too can win.

Solidarity with the school students in France who are taking it to the streets. As they point out, defence budgets are rising as education budgets are slashed. Great to see the trades unions offering their full support. All power to them!

Ken Currie: 'Weavers Struggles ...The Calton Weavers Massacre' (1987), commissioned by Elspeth King. We look forward to The People's Palace being reopened and audiences from Glasgow and elsewhere having the opportunity to view Currie's great works up close!

Over 200 people came along to Tenementals HQ, La Chunky Studios, to get a rare glimpse inside a recording studio. What a great festival is Glasgow Doors Open Day - we were delighted to be a small part of it!

This Saturday! Glasgow Doors Open Day Festival. Come along to Tenementals HQ for a rare glimpse inside a recording studio! La Chunky Studios. The Hidden Lane, Finnieston, 12 – 5pm, Sat. 19 September. Free entry – All welcome!

When we wrote The Broken Stones of The Calton Weavers the stone on the left was smashed in two and lying on the ground. But we could still make out the words and they feature in our song - we wanted it to be its own memorial to the weavers. Mind sign the petition: target - 1787 signatures!

In 1787 Lieutenant-Colonel Kellett gave the order to fire on striking weavers marching through Glasgow resulting in six deaths. In the wake of the massacre, the city authorities awarded Kellett the Freedom of The City. This honour stands to this day. We think it's time to change that. Do you agree?

Last week we played the International Network of Street Papers Global Summit. It was an honour to play to the international delegation! Jana & Petra from Slovakian newspaper Nota Bene also came along to La Chunky as we recorded new songs. We're spreading the sound of radical Glasgow far and wide!

Off out to the Calton tonight to see/hear #TheTenementals launch their new single. As James 'Purly' Wilson mounted the scaffold, he turned to his executioner, and asked: 'Did ye ever see sic a crowd, Tammas?'

On this day in 1820, Purly Wilson was executed in Glasgow Green for his part in the 1820 Radical War. There's a memorial event today on Glasgow Green at 12 noon. Here's our song about 1820, featuring Belles and Sebastian's Sarah Martin ... www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lat1...

We spent the night at Tenementals HQ (La Chunky Studio) with the wonderful and mega-talented Olivia McLean laying down some #cello on two tracks from our forthcoming album. Beautiful!

Something for the weekend? With poetry from Julie Laing and song from Doctur Normul - head along to the launch of The Broken Stones of The Calton Weavers, in the heart of The Calton! There's only 20 tickets left so get moving if you're coming along!
