Behold the price of diesel in my neighborhood yesterday. While I’ve seen it hover around $6 since Spring, I have NEVER seen the price this high. You know what gets delivered by trucks running on diesel in the US? Everything. Now you also know what’s about to cost more going into Christmas…

Can you imagine if the researchers working on the Manhattan Project had lost control of their radioactive material like #OpenAI has lost control of its models? Would Oppenheimer have blamed the plutonium? Would we have a nuclear program? It’s time to bring a very large hammer to the AI industry.

@reckless.bsky.social On “Why the backlash against Patriot Act-era concessions now?” Some of it is visibility and AI-level scale. But also, there’s now a generation of Americans (everyone under 28-30?) not directly traumatized by the 9/11 attacks. We gave away a lot because of fear 25 years ago.

I tell me kids all the time, “In the old days, car stereos had a standard. Volume was the knob on the left. Tuning was the knob on the right. Presets were the buttons in between.” Today, we have screen projection.

Really, go listen to Ezra Klein’s latest podcast episode (The A.I.s Are Already Out of Control) and listen for the themes of AI’s with “Software Brain” and the revealed preferences of the AI companies. This is your fault, @reckless.bsky.social www.nytimes.com/2026/08/18/o...

nytimes.comOpinion | The A.I.s Are Already Out of ControlHelen Toner, who served on OpenAI’s board, hopes the recent hack by that company’s models serves as a warning.

My wife just bought me a small (6” blade) chain saw off Amazon. It came with a #2 Phillips screwdriver and a 10mm socket wrench to adjust the tension on the chain. If you buy a chainsaw, and you don’t already own a #2 Phillips and a 10mm wrench, WHY ARE YOU BUYING A CHAIN SAW?!?

A refelction on yesterday’s #WorldCup match between #TeamUSA and Australia: In a town nicknamed “The Emerald City” Against a team from a country nicknamed “Oz” To thunderous applause, the US Men rediscovered an ancient wisdom… There’s no place like home!

I don’t understand why we continue to cap contributions to #SocialSecurity, particularly as we stare down the program’s insolvency. Cap the benefit, sure, but don’t cap the contribution! I speak as someone who would pay more if we eliminated the cap on contributions, and I’m 100% OK with that.

Scott Kirby has clearly never sat in the back of a United aircraft. Air travel is OK for 16-20 passengers on a mid-sized plane, and it’s an utterly shitty experience for the other 160.

I’m sure I’m in the minority on this, but I feel like I should say it anyway. I don’t give a flying fuck about the betting odds of…anything. I think your TV show would be better if you never mentioned betting odds at all. Thank you.
