That didn’t feel like goodbye, I don’t think I’ve ever heard the Cabs so tight and sounding so perfect. The sound and visuals were 100% on point. More thoughts tomorrow but that was a lot to take in.

Sat thinking that Sunday will probably be the last time I see the Cabs, it’s been a beautiful journey, almost 50 years, man, I hope my music makes as much difference and comfort.

Everyone can’t be that astronaut, but I do believe everyone is creative. Many just haven’t found the thing they love yet and are what they believe they’re good at. Aptitude plus love, if you will.

I bump into the work of Ken Robinson a lot, usually in short clipped reels. I like what he says but one thing has always puzzled me and that’s the size of the gap in many of the examples he gives. Not everyone can be an astronaut or famous dancer, not everyone wants to be!

I write stories about what it is, a brief to explain it and mood boards to show it, all external, all to keep me on track. I love making objects, and while I enjoy hearing what people think, it’s not why I do it. By the time they hear it, I’ve already moved on.

I think Ken is right that we’re educated out of being creative, maths at the top and dance at the bottom. For me, being creative is play. I get lost in it and I think that shows in the music, I can lock down on an idea and a sound pretty quickly.

One of the reasons we’re making more work is because we graft. I’m in the studio twelve hours a day making music and art. When it’s not working I go off and get influenced by other things, books, films and art. Funnily enough, not other people’s music. Or that’s what I’d have you believe.

I don’t listen to my peers’ work when I’m locked into a session. For Loud Ambient I was listening to Miley Cyrus and Billie Eilish, not peers, which is the point. I knew their work wouldn’t work its way into what I was doing. On reflection, and from talking to Richard, it had!

Lots of people have commented on how productive we’ve been of late. It’s a fair point but we changed a few things to make that happen. We decided to fly by the seat of our pants and stop working for other people. We’d live and die by our own sword.

There was six months when we got paid nothing. We’d also decided to stop doing as many gigs because it made it impossible to do new work, and a one hour gig usually ends up costing you three days.
