Poor show from Liverpool fans to not create an utterly hostile atmosphere. Calling them cheats every time they touched the ball was good, but a shame it had to wait until injury time.

"As far as I'm concerned, the first thing you can do for me is to chuck all your medals into the biggest bin you can find, because you've never won any of them fairly."

🥚 You know those days that we're all glad to mostly see the back of, when women had no choices, and we had even less? Those days which governments have been increasingly apologising for? Let's bring those back, yeah, says a Shadow minister in the UK www.neilobrien.co.uk/p/bring-back...

Infantino's mistress scandal blew up in UEFA in 2011. I remember being told about it by a senior UEFA staffer who I met when they were all in town for the 2011 Champions League Final at Wembley. Good to see it finally get the light of day.

“The famine is over! The curse be damned!! Hit the nuclear button! Mayo have won the All-Ireland!!” An all-time great sports commentary moment from Stephen Grealis and Martin McHugh on Mayo’s Midwest Radio. #gaa

A friend was sent a picture by her mate in Canberra of junction with her names. The nearest I can find (by which I mean after 5 minutes googling) is a part of Mosman in Sydney where David Street and Boyle Street are 1.6km from each other.

I'm sure there's lots of reasons Brazil have been shit for a generation, but I can't help think the creeping presence of Bolsanaro whispering evangelical bollocks in the playing cohort is a part of it.

CAno Verde are so, so brave. Their playing out from the back is amazing and terrifying. I think it’s less having enormous balls of steel and more they’re playing without any fear whatsoever

Thinking of my mother today, who was forced to relinquish me, and lied to by the Catholic Church (who also lied to my adoptive parents). The PM's apology won't undo anything, but is welcome, and needed. 🥚

But also there's hundreds of thousands of us, and we have issues which relate to being separated from our mothers, in varying degrees. There are reasons adoptees are _35_ times likelier to attempt suicide. We need support for what the British state encouraged religious institutions to do to us 🥚

A really notable difference between African teams in the World Cup and European ones is the ability of the former to hit little chipped balls over opponents to a player out wide. The latter are unwilling to try to find a team mate when there's an opponent between them

It's as if they believe the laws of physics prevent any way to find a team mate than a straight line pass on the floor. This was especially noticeable when England play , when Madueke was in acres of space but no one had the chops to play to him with a lofted ball

In which I opine on Andy Burnham...

NEW EPISODE: Andy Burnham - Forged in Football. How the probable next PM grew up in a culture of football fanzines and promoted supporter ownership. @goldbergradio.bsky.social @bylinetimes.bsky.social hears from @theboyler.bsky.social and @wsagraham.bsky.social open.spotify.com/episode/5BmE...

I'm not saying that this stadium is full of CR7 fans more concerned with taking bloody pictures than actually watching, you know, the kind of people who football can do well without, but there wasn't a chorus of boos at the hydration break just now.

Andy Burnham used to be Chair of the organisation I worked for, Supporters Direct, latterly as CEO. I had to go and meet him in Westminster, in the Pugin tea room. We chatted for a bit but then I could tell from his eyes that someone was moving through the room and was behind my left shoulder.

I'd put my bag down to the left of my chair and thought that it might trip up someone (there were a few doddery old Lords in there) so I leant down, pulled it away and said 'sorry' to whomever was walking past, turning my head to face them as I did. I then saw the blue suit.

So, by sitting at the table he sat at, Andy started a chain of events that led to me having to apologise to Margaret Thatcher when I met her, in a 180 degree reversal of how such a scene was supposed to play out in my youthful imaginings.

A rain delay keeping live sport off the screen. Time to show some classics from the Benson and Hedges Trophy from the 1970s. Farouk Engineer and Jack Lord in pitch black Old Trafford and all that

There's a long history of UK politicians doing absolutely nothing to actively stop loyalist pogroms in Northern Ireland, so Starmer is at least on brand with more than merely his own woeful record of inactivity

Jesus, Everton are as blunt as the knives kitchen in our drawers which we got when we got married 19 years' ago. Fairly solid defensively, but absolutely nothing up front. Are they always this feeble?
