Those who underestimate women’s civic power will discover, as history has shown time and time again, democracy’s most resilient defenders are often the ones who have had to fight hardest to claim their place within it. Dig deeper with me on this very topic: https://bit.ly/4ukdI33

time.comTo Protect Democracy, We Must Protect Women's Voting AccessOn International Women's Day, Celina Stewart, argues that women's voting rights are at risk.

We are America, and our democracy is worth showing up for. This moment calls on all of us to stand up, speak out, and defend the freedom of every person to participate in our democracy. Join us, and together, let's rise for democracy.

I recently moderated a panel at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation's Policy Summit Live! It was wonderful to speak with Jonathan Jackson, La Shawn K. Ford, Frederique Desrosiers, and Agnes Gray, and their message was clear: vote, get involved, and stay engaged. Democracy needs all of us.

As America approaches its 250th year, we should tell an honest story about who we are. Women who fought for the vote, abolitionists who challenged slavery, & generations of immigrants who helped build this country are not footnotes in the American story. They ARE the American story. (2/3)

Removing their voices is a disservice to the public, distortion of our history, & slap in the face to our founding principles. We don't honor our ideals by hiding our journey toward them. We honor them by telling the truth about how we fought to make liberty, equality, and democracy real (3/3)

Honored to join Christina Ayala, Margaret Mitchell, and Zakiya Thomas at YWCA’s 2026 Leadership Summit for a conversation about coalition, leadership, and democracy. Partnership is more than a strategy. It is how we build the power, trust, and resilience needed to create lasting change.

President Trump, his administration and many lawmakers have claimed widespread issues with mailed ballots and fraudulent voting, but the evidence doesn’t support them. NYT explored a number of these claims and did the fact-checking we all need: https://nyti.ms/4spcxxf

The Constitution is clear: election administration is the responsibility of the states, not the executive branch. The administration's latest executive order expands the president's power while narrowing the voting class to a select few. Read more: https://bit.ly/41bWQhJ

The Senate is still debating the SAVE America Act. #ICYMI: I recently sat down with The Atlantic to discuss how the SAVE ACT would disproportionately affect people across the country, including the approx 8/10 married women who change their names. Read the full article here: https://bit.ly/4d87lK8

theatlantic.comA Serious Senate Debate About an Unserious BillThe most pressing question about the SAVE America Act is not whether it’s going to pass, but why President Trump and his allies are so determined to see the Senate put up a bill that’s doomed to fail.

At LWVUS, we empower voters and defend democracy. Voters should not face roadblocks when it comes time to register to vote or cast a ballot. That's why we're working so hard to stop the SAVE Act from becoming law. Check out our team’s most recent blog: https://bit.ly/4urvBgt

It has been a busy week of reflection, celebration, and purpose. Last weekend, I joined hundreds of other advocates in Alabama, honoring the legacy of the civil rights movement and celebrating the leaders who continue that work today.

Yesterday, I had the honor of speaking on a panel at AAFSW’s 17th annual Women's History Month panel discussion entitled “The Role of Women in Democracy, The Military and Diplomacy” alongside H.E. Cici Bode the Ambassador of Mauritania to the U.S. and Major General (Ret.) Donna Barbisch.

Divisive and hateful rhetoric has no place in our society. The President’s recent post on Truth Social not only demeans two respected individuals based on their race but also perpetuates harmful stereotypes that undermine the fundamental principles of justice and fairness for all.

The use of lethal force against people exercising their constitutional rights is unacceptable and must be fully investigated. Read @lwvus.bsky.social full statement in response to the continued escalation of military activity in Minnesota from federal immigration officials: https://bit.ly/4sUAr54

Today we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his enduring call to build a more just #democracy. His work helped propel the #votingrights movement forward—reminding us that access to the ballot is foundational to equal opportunity and accountable government.

January 6, 2021, wasn’t the end of democratic strife, but the beginning of one of the greatest ever threats to our #democracy.
