Real talk? I teared up when I heard about Lula's win. Same goes for when Vučić conceded. Voting really does matter, and I hope I get to cry happy tears about the upcoming elections in Israel and the United States too.

So you're telling me this wasn't a skit from SNL UK?!

Dave Vetter@davidrvetter.bsky.social

Currently wondering what message the UK govt thought it was sending by dressing up the Minister for Net Zero in a literal Shell logo.

GOOD CLIMATE NEWS: Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva beat far right Flávio Bolsonaro in a tight runoff election to stay in office as President of Brazil which will continue to help limit damage across the Amazon Rainforest!!!

I'm forever grateful that I own a historic home, but I wasn't quite prepared for how much of my life would be spent battling moisture and cursing previous owners for their poor decisions / craftsmanship.

I have bots replying to comments under my videos on TikTok telling people not to believe what I have to say because I’m “too pretty to be a scientist” and therefore must be an AI video.

Bad actors are targeting my posts and encouraging people to mass commit suicide if they’re worried about climate change. It’s disgusting that social media platforms don’t automatically take those comments down, so please report, delete, and block any account saying that.

Atlanta's city council recently voted unanimously to bring rail back to the Beltline, a 22-mile long former rail corridor that was turned into a greenway system, and the city plans to construct three different light rail lines while maintaining greenway access for the public.

GOOD NEWS: New York City has planted over 18,000 street trees this year as part of their goal of covering a third of the metropolitan area with trees by 2040, and these plantings were congregated in lower income neighborhoods that currently lack adequate shade cover.

THAT’S MY ALMA MATER AND MY OLD EMPLOYER!! Congratulations, Jay and the rest of the UT Sustainability staff!! This is such fantastic news and what gorgeous trucks!! (Working for UT Recycling when I was a student is what inspired me to pursue a career in solid waste)

How much do you pay monthly for your solar + battery systems? I don't care about how little your electric bill is. I want to know how much your solar loan costs. Curious to know because my audience is wondering, and honestly, I am too!

Hot Take: If you're a science communicator, you shouldn't be sharing articles that are behind a paywall. Screenshot the article, use an archiving tool, or choose another article that isn't behind a paywall. Our audience shouldn't have to pay to understand what we're talking about.

I used to see maybe 1-3 monarch butterflies during migration season in East Tennessee, but now I'm seeing 3-6 a day thanks to people planting small native flower patches!! Keep on planting native, y'all. It's working!!

Earlier this year I planted a few raspberry canes as part of my plan to have a food forest in my yard. I fully assumed I wouldn’t get any fruit this year, but I was wrong! I have a tiny crop!

GOOD NEWS: One of the offshore wind farms that the Trump administration tried to stop construction at has officially built all of its turbines, and it’s expected to generate power at full capacity by the end of the year which will help lower electric bills for residents in New England.

I was inspired by @ketanjoshi.co to show off some of the greenwashed ads I’m seeing while attending Climate Week NYC. Up first, the AI industry trying to claim utility bills aren’t going up because of them by strategically choosing data that ignores when hyperscale data centers started operations.

Up next is a fossil fuel major trying to greenwash crude oil as if the Strait of Hormuz or climate change isn’t a thing. I’ll keep adding to this thread when I see more!

This ad isn’t specifically about greenwashing, but it is about monopolies. Merging these two rail companies would be a horrible idea, and yet they’re trying to gain support for it.

Do you know what hasn’t been said at any Climate Week NYC event I’ve attended? That it’s too late to take action. People here are fighting harder than ever before for a better future, so don’t give up because the climate experts certainly aren’t.

Upcoming book about evidence-based hope and how to take action on climate 👇

Dr Charlie Gardner@charliejgardner.bsky.social

This year has been brutal, and like most people you probably want to do more about climate change. But what, and how? Great news – I’ve written just the book for you! It’s called What One Person Can Do and it’s a clear and simple how-to guide, a roadmap to help you make influential changes...

Reposting because Big Tech is everywhere at Climate Week 😵‍💫

KetAnthropic JoshAI@ketanjoshi.co

This is going to be a thread of AI greenwashing getting pumped out at New York Climate Week Here's one from today: Siemens, raking in MOUNTAINS of $$ from selling gas turbines to data centres (not mentioned) says: “we are racing to mitigate this as fast as possible" apnews.com/article/clim...

Absolutely loving the conversations happening at the @selc.bsky.social #ClimateWeekNYC event about the intersection between race, class, and environmental injustices. It’s so refreshing to see Southern voices and organizing efforts get uplifted in spaces where we’re typically ignored.

Being at #ClimateWeekNYC is first time I’ve been somewhere I can loudly talk shit about Trump without fear of getting harassed / shot in two years, and I didn’t know how much I needed that until I arrived.

Y’all at #ClimateWeekNYC best beware. I brought my husband who works in construction, and he’s not going to hold back when it comes to affordability and accessibility around home electrification and green building practices.

I might’ve looked like a crazy person stomping around downtown Roanoke while waiting for the train, but I was doing the local ecosystem a favor by killing dozens of spotted lanternflies.

If I received $1,000 every single time someone tried to mansplain how to afford an electric vehicle to me, I might actually be able to afford one, but once again, I'm not in the market for one right now despite eventually wanting to go electric because it would be a poor financial decision.

I don't care if you bring up used EVs or charging with an extension cord. It's still a financial bad move for me because I'm in the middle of renovating my home by hand since I can't afford contractors. Once that's done and my current high MPG gasoline car starts having issues, then I'll buy an EV.

Mitch McConnell, weirdly enough, looks like the male version of my Appalachian Nana. She is currently experiencing cognitive decline, and so I unfortunately recognize the look on Mitch's face all too well. It's the look of someone who isn't present, and what the Republicans are doing is elder abuse.

Saying "just buy an EV if you hate high gas prices" to poor people makes climate activists look out of touch. Those who are most impacted by high gas prices can't afford $20k+ on a vehicle and charger. I certainly can't, so let's keep that in mind before we shame people for not going electric.

Y’all, I’ll go electric when I can afford it. The same goes for poor folks. Lecturing us about available options hasn’t magically fixed our financial situation. I’m not an op or sold out to big polluters either. I’m a sustainability scientist and climate activist. I’m on your side!

Y'all in the climate space need to go peek at the replies of the folks you follow because I'm noticing you're following quite a few of the accounts I'm having to block due to harassment.

Lesson learned. Do not bring up class on Bluesky. Y'all have zero empathy for those outside of your class and think lecturing them about available options will somehow magically fix their financial situation.

Don't get me wrong. There were a lot of great options brought up in the replies, but they won't work for folks struggling to make ends meet. I'll personally go electric as soon as I'm done fixing my house and can save up for a down payment + charger installation. That'll take years though!
