I mean seriously. How could any serious person have faith in the federal government when they rally around *this*?

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump: "Angie Nixon was the lead sponsor of a bill to let schools turn children, all of them, transgender without parental consent"

Seeing some of this about suing states who don't vote for your party and the plain-sight looting of the entire government, I keep coming back to this thought. Doesn't it kinda feel like the dissolution of the federal government? At best, we're seeing the cracks that will eventually crumble it.

I could easily see it being something like "the people are just becoming disillusioned to the whole idea of having one if the only thing it does is *this*, so they stopped paying federal taxes, and adopted their own currency."

Anyone gonna talk about that picture in the background?

🚨 WOW: In a new video, Trump donor Eric Deters announces a lawsuit against Kimberly Guilfoyle, threatens to depose her and Don Jr., and teases an explosive recording. “This might just bring down the ENTIRE Trump administration,” he warns.

Sony exec: it was a fun idea, but how do we honestly get people to watch the Ringo one? Other Sony exec: buy 3, get 1 free.

Sony is considering releasing all 4 ‘BEATLES’ biopics on the same day in April 2028. Another idea being considered is offering a 4-pack of tickets to encourage fans to buy tickets to all 4 films at once. (Source: www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie...)

I've come across this face a couple times now, just a few minutes apart, and each time I see it I laugh audibly. How could you WILLINGLY do this to yourself?

She's simply going to hide in the corner of the human traffickers' rooms in the dark. Babadook situation, 90% fatality rate.

Isn't "vibe-coded" a derogatory term because it has been slowly turning the sites we use into stuttering shambling monstrosities? It can churn out an approximation of a functioning website in record time, but I think the trade-off is abundantly clear.

I think it’s important for anyone who (completely understandably) checked out on AI the second the crypto/nft/metaverse/snake oil chuds started pushing it to realize that, in at least the domain of software development, we are very much living in a scenario where the snake oil actually works

40 or 50 years ago, this person would've gone to work in a factory. He'd come home angry each night, glaring at his wife for having the audacity to suggest he interact with their child instead of being able to "take a load off" in front of the TV.

union person@junlper.beer

putting “raising my child” in the catagory of ways how ai will streamline my life

At some point, this will be correct. Whether it's runaway inflation or electricity actually becoming this expensive relative to our current purchasing power, this fact will likely become higher quality with time.

Low Quality Facts@lowqualityfacts.bsky.social

Seems wasteful.

Humans have created a society where anti-social behavior is rewarded, and pro-social behavior is exploited. Humans. You know, the things that only made it this far BECAUSE of sociality...

🚨 NEWS: A 28-year-old researcher at a Russian anti-plague institute has died following a suspected lab accident in Siberia. Nearly 200 people are reportedly under observation and hospitals have been quarantined amid concerns over possible pneumonic plague.

*their* Hyuck hyuck! I hate it here...

Xbox plans to lay off hundreds of employees this week. It will be there second major job reduction of the year, after Xbox eliminated 1,600 roles in July. Microsoft, which owns Xbox, Bethesda, Activision, and Blizzard, made over $100 billion in profit last year.

Glad we anchored about a 1/6th of the US economy on creating what roughly amounts in trustworthiness to asking that one friend's older brother a question, and he was also your hype guy.

It's everyone's favorite "10th" of the month! Get gone Mar10, stay away Jul10, it's the best tone for movies taking place in Mexico, it's Sep10! Maybe there's something to be said for the similarity to "Sephiroth", but I digress.

Are we just in a 100 year loop or something? I feel deep pity for any historians watching this shit play out in real time.

The New York Times@nytimes.com

Exit polls on Sunday projected that the far-right Alternative for Germany party would finish first in a state election. But it was not clear whether it would win a majority — which would propel a far-right party into power for the first time since World War II. Follow live updates.

This fucking kills me. The cruelty on display, daily, in this country is nauseating...

ProPublica@propublica.org

ProPublica spoke to dozens of people who had lived in homeless encampments when cities cleared them out in “sweeps.” We distributed notecards so people could tell us about the toll in their own words. ➡️ This is what they wrote:

We know Roko's Basilisk contends with the idea that reality may be a simulation to identify which people would've helped create the AI running it, but what if the simulation were actually run by the human resistance to determine trustworthiness? Now your AI flavored "Pascal's Wager" has cracks.

I think the evolution of the term "Moot Point" perfectly explains the problems we face as a society. It used to mean something important that one yearned to discuss at the next "Moot" (a sort of town meeting). We all know what it means nowadays.

Not to be a cynic, but we've gotten too good at entertaining ourselves. It's FAR too easy to get home from work and check completely out until your alarm clock the next morning. Not enough people have to sit there, ruminating or thinking about what could be done anymore.

Gas was over $4 a gallon nationally every single day in August. What’s it gonna take? What is America’s breaking point?

I believe that the erosion of American Education is the cause for EVERYTHING we're currently seeing in the states. The Department of Education should have been given INCREASED funding over time, not REDUCED. We've forsaken our teachers and professors in favor of priests and pastors, and it shows.

This is some specious reasoning at best, but more likely just misinformation.

PBS News@pbsnews.org

Fewer people applied for U.S. unemployment benefits last week, another sign that layoffs remain low and that most Americans enjoy job security. https://to.pbs.org/4wBRt8Q

"I think we all think that ABOLISHING ICE wouldn't necessarily answer the problems you have. I also think we all think we should reach across the aisle to the Republicans, as we can only return to normalcy by conceding all ground we have made up to now, and, as speaker, I promise to do just that!"

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Jeffries stop short of committing to holding a vote to abolish ICE is he's House Speaker next January, but says he's "committed to dramatically reforming ICE ... the masks should come off, body cameras should come on, judicial warrants should be required."

Why are we such deranged little gremlins that the Anger Machine gets significantly more use than the Happy Machine? Is it because all of our friends are already in the Anger Machine? Or is it that we can't all agree on what even the Happy Machine is?

I know, I know. The episode is still relevant, though.

David Roberts@volts.wtf

This has long been one of my nightmare scenarios for EVs and *especially* for autonomous vehicles: mandatory advertising, delivered to your screens, with no way to opt out. Utterly dystopian.

This picture shows that americans have no meaningful way to enact necessary change within our government. This is the pile of "human" that has cause us all so much grief and lead to so much hardship. We can only watch as the elected officials meant to prevent this, fall in line behind it.

Adam Kinzinger@adamkinzinger.substack.com

"Trump is scrambling to stop the BBC from digging into..." come on, there's more evocative imagery we can use here. "Trump is horrified that the BBC might tear his asshole out in a similar fashion to what he and Epstein would always fantasize about doing to children"

MeidasTouch@meidastouch.com

Meiselas: Trump is terrified of the BBC right now. And he's definitely choking. Trump is scrambling to stop the BBC from digging into the finances of his businesses after a judge ordered him to turn them over. You like saying you can take BBC but you can't handle it. You're scared of BBC, Donald.

We've reached a point where hobbies originally catered to kids in the 90's-00's are becoming luxury nostalgia hits for adults, leaving modern kids with few affordable options to choose from. It's little wonder they choose F2P games instead of investing SIGNIFICANTLY into something they may not like.

When you're giving directions somewhere, don't say things like "the last stop sign on that street" unless it's obvious that there aren't any more stop signs after the last one.

Goddamn Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core pisses me off sometimes... I know it's early access and the game is genuinely great, but ugh. I wish they'd let players have a good run every now and again.
