another point is that this will funnel a lot of labor and employment dispute resolution into grievance arbitration, so having a boss friendly union would actually help them put a lid on a lot of shit they’ve been dealing with

it’s worth noting there is a well established tactic of employers voluntarily recognizing “independent” unions to a.) block legitimate worker organizing b.) labor-wash their reputation, while knowing they’ll essentially dictate terms

sometimes voluntary recognition from an employer is forced through worker power, sometimes it’s a sign that an employer is actually trying to be pro-worker, and then there’s the secret third option of why an employer would voluntarily recognize

massive billion dollar enterprises voluntarily recognizing a worker organization with zero institutional resources or outside union affiliation immediately makes me ask why they did that

the sort of intellectual dishonesty and naked cynicism it takes for an academic to fuss about exposure of predatory political fundraising on the grounds not that the exposure is inaccurate, but because it’ll make the predation less effective
