(2026-1/365) I'm starting the 2026 version of #blueskies - a thread with daily uplifting stories, good things happening in the world, or personal enjoyment, meant to be a break from life's challenges. Let's start with this dedicated educator of 61 years who inspired many. www.cbc.ca/radio/asitha...

cbc.caTeacher wins Guinness World Record for working 61 years at the same school | CBC RadioRetired Tennessee teacher Glenda Akin has lived and worked through a whole lot of history. And now she’s made history herself as the Guinness-certified longest serving teacher at the same school .

There's lots of important things to talk about on social media, but there surely is room on here for Halloween Candy discourse and my controversial opinion that candy corn is not so bad, actually.

I was fortunate to work at BioWare, a storied studio, and one of the most amazing IPs in STAR WARS. At BioWare Austin I knew wonderful people, many of whom have moved on to doing amazing things, and who I still consider friends. I have ink to commemorate my time there. I'll always remember it.

BREAKING: Electronic Arts is cutting 400 jobs and shutting down BioWare, the legendary development studio behind Dragon Age and Mass Effect. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

As a big nerd and an IT professional, best post to start my day of having to patch a bunch of stuff.

This post is unavailable.

Every year the people who create food for sports stadiums get more unhinged about what they cook up yet there is still at least one of those culinary goblin creations I would probably devour happily. This is 2026's.

Yes that’s a Cinnamon bun. Yes that’s Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Yes that’s ice cream.

The strangest way I sell how lore dumps/story finds are one of the best parts of @remedygames.com 's CONTROL Resonant is to refer to the "itchy, tasty" story from Resident Evil. That was surreal, darkly humorous, and horrifying in its progression. That's rife in all of CONTROL Resonant. I love it.

One of the best parts about playing an open world action game like CONTROL Resonant or Ghost of Tsushima or whatever is how you can look like a total badass taking out 5 enemies on a building one minute then look like a total idiot the next killing yourself jumping off of it.

I started writing regularly again. I have a small, but faithful readership that takes in all my opinions on kpop, games, and community management stuff. I plan on trying YT videos because editing vids brings me joy and I might get successful. Definitely normalize chasing dreams when you're older.

question for *senior* community managers... if you stayed in community: - what makes you stay? can be fun things but thinking concrete stuff like opportunities, new challenges, $, etc if you left community/pivoted: - why? lack of upwards mobility? lack of agency? lack of studio support? layoffs?

Highly likely we'll be getting @remedygames.com putting on CONTROL Resonant live karaoke at some gaming-related event or media content in the future. (IYKYK, I had so much fun and laughter for that mission).

One of #kpop's most unique 3rd generation groups had a nice reunion recently as #Dreamcatcher showed up for one of their extended family, while new music is on the horizon with ChRocktikal. The latest is below! thelowkeygeek.com/dreamcatcher...

thelowkeygeek.comDreamcatcher Reunites For Special Occasion As Chrocktikal Prepares Activities In SeptemberDreamcatcher fans get an unexpected full reunion treat, and the content relay passes to Siyeon-led band ChRocktikal for new music for Fall.

It's not exclusive to it in any way, but this one really made me laugh, because this is very much what happens in #kpop spaces with fans finding a new act they love.

Discord Bot update: the code is of course far from optimized and I saw that YT throttles rss feed scraping on its end, but now instead of returning the last video it can also return up to the last 5 in a list. Not too shabby I'd say.

People are finding out more about Dolly Parton recently, but the important thing to remember is she didn't spend too much time frequently posting/snarking about the worst of society - she just tried to make it better. Folks on here who spend more time doomposting than doing could learn that.

Some of you may remember I was taking Angela Yu's 100 Days of Python. Well, I recently finished it and decided to put what I learned to use making a Discord bot, which I've always wanted to do - no vibe coding, no gen AI, just straight up elbow grease and searches. It's not much but I'm satisfied.

I wrote before about how I tried the whole vibe coding thing and all I ended up with was stuff I didn't even understand, or could fix, and was dependent on the AI tool to deal with. I can't do that. I need to actually learn what I'm doing and that means I need to struggle with it. That's the point.

When you struggle or work with something you're trying to learn, you're building the infrastructure in your brain to more quickly understand and deal with it yourself, even if you don't have the tools. Skipping the struggle and iteration is skipping the best of what makes us human - persevering.

Folks are passing around the one chart regarding exam scores among Chinese students who do or do not use AI tools, but the source paper that contains it, at 58 pages, is worth the read if you can set aside time for it. papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers....
