I saw the CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND: SPECIAL EDITION in 1980 and I still recall the image of Roy with the little aliens surrounding him.

First film you saw at the cinema. The real first one, not the pretend one you tell people! Mine: The Empire Strikes Back, 1980, Wigan. We were near the front and I can still remember how massive the AT-ATs looked, looming over us out of the snow :) Film, year, where, and whatever stuck with you.

I appreciate that Criterion changed the total you need to order to get free shipping from 75 bucks to 74, because three 4K discs on sale comes out to $74.91.

Kevin Smith’s 'Mallrats' was received with something less than enthusiasm when it was released on this day in 1995. @rroxana-hadadi.bsky.social on what it gets right about masculinity, youth, and consumer culture: crookedmarquee.com/malaise-at-t...

While filming the scene in BLOOD SIMPLE where Dan Hedaya's character throws up, cinematographer Barry Sonnenfeld actually got nauseous just watching him act. So the Coens aimed the boom mic at him, and that's his real retching on the soundtrack.

We all know the "Viggo broke his toe" story but what's another movie fact you're personally compelled to bring up every time without prompting? For me, it's the fact that Robin Tunney is wearing a wig in The Craft because of having just shaved her head to save her job filming Empire Records.

RIP to character actor Richard Riehle, who was great in a ton of movies including playing the character of "Old Guard" in THE FUGITIVE (he was 45 years old at the time).

Buy a movie theater in a small town and run classic movies for a buck a ticket.

Peter@notalawyer.bsky.social

question for the audience: if you were ultra rich (let’s say $25M), what completely frivolous thing are you buying?

In college I was recruited by a professional scalper to stand in line at a Ticketmaster booth across state lines to purchase tickets for a Phish concert. The money was good but it felt gross and I never did it again.

I started watching the Martin Mull doc directed by Bob Saget and realized we've run out of dead comedians as subjects and have moved on to dead comedians as directors.

One wild aspect of Steven Soderbergh stepping in to direct THE BATMAN PART II is that it will be the first time he hasn't been his own cinematographer since ERIN BROCKOVICH 26 years ago.

In ARGO, the Hollywood sign is shown to be falling apart in late 1979, but it had been demolished and rebuilt the year before. (This is shown correctly in THE NICE GUYS which is set in '77.)
