With the work out of the way, and a black hole lurking in my stomach, the time was right for the after party So let's get ready for a quick fire round on some vue fes behind the scenes: - everyone at vue fes, escpecially @goede.dev, is like way too knowledgeable about ancient firearms (flintlock!)

- @hirok.io and @matchai.dev hold super fun co-working sessions to which everyone is invited (except apparently me 😜) - @evanyou.me absolutely demolishes at Karaoke, like YOU ARE NOT PREPARED. Slayed in three languages, from anime songs via chinese ballads into flawlessly executed dr dre

explicitness over magic, simplicity over ergonomics and discoverability seemed like major recurring themes here! The panel ended with a surprising announcement: elysia, h3 and hono are collaborating on creating a standard context and middleware! you can check it out on standard-servers.github.io

After drinking about an ocean's worth of iced coffee, I then made my way to @naokihaba.com's talk laying out his road to becoming a vite+ core team member. As he transitioned from contributor to maintainer, his mindset gradually shifted from "does this fix work" towards "does this fix fit Vite+"

Last but not least was @ubugeeei.dev's reimagining of the vue toolchain in rust vize is an incredibly ambitious project exploring what native developer tooling for vue could enable - such as enforcing that an injected value has to actually be provided in the render tree bsky.app/profile/theo...

I had @baseballyama.bsky.social and @ubugeeei.dev from the @svelte.dev and @vuejs.org core teams on the UIT INSIDE podcast to talk about their next generation native compilers for frontend frameworks: rsvelte and vize - built for interoperability with the oxc ecosystem English transcript available!

I'm a sucker for deep technical dives, so @wan9chi.bsky.social's talk on Vite Task was easily my favorite talk of the conference. manually declaring task inputs in build systems is prone to error and can easily cause incorrect cache hits/misses

e.g. changing a test file in your input module shouldn't invalidate the cache, but manually specifying only relevant files is not practical vite task solves this by using fsspy to track file operations your processes perform - implicitly generating a map of inputs it can then use to infer staleness

in the end, Rust offered the more mature ecosystem and allowed the Astro team to reduce the amount of code they had to maintain while addressing longstanding issues.

sadly, VueFes being a multi-track meant that I had to make a couple of bitter choices: missed out on @esm.dev's talk on type-safe URLs in Vue Router - IMO one of the best router implementations out there, steadily continuing to innovate on features while maintaining stability and reliability

next up was @mk.gg's talk on @emdashcms.com! seeing WordPress usage absolutely dwarf that of other frameworks on a bar chart was pretty humbling (you could barely spot the SvelteKit bar once WordPress entered the chat) personal highlight is without a doubt the plugin registry being built on atproto!

after lunch, I moved on to @jp-knj.bsky.social's talk on the reasons behind astro's move away from go to the rust toolchain interestingly, the go HTML parser being really faithful to the spec and how browsers process html conflicted somewhat with the expectations developers had regarding jsx.

As every year, @kazupon.dev opened - seems like the number of attendees only grows and I'm happy to see so many sponsors supporting this great event! Evan then kicked off the conference with a keynote on the state of Vue, an update what VoidZero has been working on and what's next in JS tooling.

what stuck with me most about @evanyou.me was the vision of vite+ as a sort of codebase insight provider that retains its knowledge of the module graph and source code across tool calls and provides a queriable knowledge layer agents can leverage to understand and modify the project.

I'm actually kinda bullish on the EU because the DMA is prying platforms open for developers to actually build stuff: - actual access to your phone's NFC capabilities (HCE) - OS-level hooks for integrating third-party AI agents - on-device JIT compilation via alternative browser engines

right now the platforms are kicking and screaming (withholding features from the EU), but once they're forced to comply, I foresee a golden age in the end, innovation needs freedom, and there's very little of that on locked-down mobile OSes today..

like what do you mean I can't run a long-running process on my own device? what do you mean I can't freely transmit data over the NFC chip I paid for? when did we collectively accept that the amazing computers in our pockets don't actually belong to us?

sure, let's let the alt-right MAGA arms dealer breed genetically enhanced war dogs and strap weapons to them. I don't see how this could possibly go wrong

software engineering in 2026 is like 80% fixing supply chain vulnerabilities, 20% waiting for github to come back online

I was today years old when I learned git's HEAD is case-sensitive... thought I was going insane because `git reset head~1` would sometimes hurl me back into prehistoric times 🦕

turns out git only treats uppercase HEAD as a special ref. lowercase head gets resolved as a regular ref, and on mac's filesystem happily redirects it to the main worktree's .git/HEAD causing maximum confusion. save your sanity and use @ to refer to HEAD instead 🤦‍♀️

The problem with ragebait is that it works - like I am disgusted at what I see on that site, but I can't help but doomscroll it.. It's not what draws me there (that would be fomo/news/discussion from our industry), but it's what traps me there and ruins my mood and probably also society

patak@patak.cat

It’d be nice for the constant stream of rage-bait takes on X to stay there, instead of people making sure the worst of it respawns here as inaccessible screenshots and gets amplified in a sea of vain indignation. They are farming your attention, there and here. Don’t play their game. Let’s move on.

Maybe I should write an extension that filters the vile shit on that site and instead shows bsky posts in their place..? 🤔

since compute is perishable and intelligence fungible, I assume we’ll eventually get spot markets for inference, priced through bidding much like electricity you post an order for, say, 5B tokens equivalent of inference with benchmark score >128, providers bid and you pick for your constraints

unlike safari, chromium doesn't seem to honor EXIF metadata in webp... wondering if that's an oversight or intentional because webp placing metadata at the end of the container means you have to either throw out progressive rendering altogether or rotate your image rotate after loading lol

to us 20 dollar tier plebs, Opus 5.5 unlocks a level of intelligence we simply had no access to since fable became pay-to-play back in august - and that's on top of not only being smarter but also finally shutting it with the weird ass opus 5 lingo!

had a Japanese bank I've been customers with for over 5 years issue me a "gold card" with a two-month revolving credit limit of 20 man JPY, or about 1200 USD. Like do they want me to spend money or not? I couldn't even buy the new iPhone with it lol

meanwhile my girlfriend applied for her card back when she was a student with no income and received it with literally tenfold the spending budget. welp.

started watching PLUTO - just finished the second episode and I have to say it's been a while since I got this hooked on an anime! 🤖
