Wildwood has officially arrived in cinemas! 🌲✨ We've partnered with Black Bear UK to celebrate the wonder of trees, both in the film and all around us, with an exciting giveaway. Head to the link in our bio to enter. The competition closes on Sunday 25 October.

Put ripe cones in a paper bag to dry out naturally for a few days - but avoid direct heat. When the cones are dry, they will open up and release their seeds, which are then ready to be sown! 🌳 #SeedGatheringSeason

If you’ve been out and about over the past couple of weeks, you might have noticed one of the clearest natural signals of the seasons changing – the leaves of our trees turning colour.

Who would have thought that breaking up a noble fir cone would be so satisfying? A huge thank you to everyone who has watched our Seed Gathering Season online talks! 🧡 #SeedGatheringSeason

Trees that produce fleshy fruits are the most time-consuming to process, but that doesn't mean the process isn't fun! As much of the fleshy material needs to be removed, using a rough surface such as a paving slab can speed up the seed-cleaning process! #SeedGatheringSeason

📣 Announcement for schools! Orchards for Schools is now open for applications! Successful applicants will receive an orchard and/or hedgerow pack, along with a range of engaging educational resources and training.

Nuts will produce a radicle, which is known as the first root. This can be encouraged by keeping the seeds in a bucket of leaf mould and turning them gently so they don't rot. Once you see the radicle start to sprout, you can then plant the seed! #SeedGatheringSeason

That's why we're supporting #GIBWeek26 and recognising the vital work of organisations such as Grown in Britain, whose commitment to certification and plant health helps protect our trees and woodlands.

After a summer of record-breaking heat, schools across London can now apply for Young Tree Champions: London's Living Labs, a free, nature-based, outdoor learning programme from The Tree Council and the Mayor of London’s Green Roots Fund, aiming to combat the effects of a rapidly changing climate.

Several members of the public have emailed us to report seeing some trees flowering in autumn. Our Director of Trees, Science and Research, Jon, has also noted that crab apples are blooming during this time of year.

🌰🐿️ It’s Red Squirrel Awareness Week! Did you know red squirrels depend on our native trees — like Scots pine, oak, and hazel — for food and shelter? 🌲🌿 By protecting and planting the right trees, we’re not just growing trees… we’re giving red squirrels a future. 💚 #RedSquirrelAwarenessWeek

After our Seed Gathering Season Masterclass last week, we asked Jon, our Director of Science, Research and Trees, to get creative with his tree seed display. Please do send us your creative seed gathering displays! #SeedGatheringSeason

Hands up who has grown trees from seed! ✋️ This Seed Gathering Season, we would love to hear from those who have successfully grown their own trees from seed. Please share in the comments what types of trees you've grown and your location in the country. Don’t forget to send us pictures!

What is Seed Gathering Season and what does it involve? Seed Gathering Season is a wonderful opportunity for us all to come together and gather seed from local trees and nurture them to become young saplings, which can be planted locally to benefit future generations.

Today's #FungiFriday feature is the shaggy parasol spotted by our National Tree Warden Scheme Coordinator, Sam. Shaggy parasols often grow in "fairy rings" and, in European folklore, these mysterious circles were said to be where fairies, pixies and elves danced.

As the days grow shorter and temperatures begin to drop, trees become even more important for wildlife. These five fantastic trees are just some of the autumn favourites for nature. #SeedGatheringSeason

Happy Seed Gathering Season! As the nights start to draw in, it’s tempting to hunker inside – but this is the best time of year to explore your local woods or nearest park and gather the seeds, nuts and fruits that will grow to become the next generation of life-giving trees, shrubs and hedgerows.

As seed gathering season approaches, our team has started spotting early tree seeds. Last weekend, Sam, our National Tree Warden Scheme Coordinator, collected a variety of tree seeds! Who else has been spotting or collecting tree seeds?

Save the date! Have you wondered how a community tree nursery gets started? Join us for this Seed Gathering Season online talk as community tree nursery operators and initiators share their experiences growing trees from seed and bringing people together through local tree-growing projects.
