#crypticcrossword In today's Guardian, set by Paul (30095), we have: "Descent as intolerance of spirit reported (9)". Say it slowly... :) It's a nice definition, too, but a terrible clue. ;) ;)

Just to add to this - barred crosswords are different, but no less cryptic. I'd say one needs to be familiar and comfortable with the cryptics before tackling a barred puzzle.

#crypticcrossword Today's G, 30061 set by Vlad. COD for me is: "What Telford had a lot of to attract Romeo – sex (6,9)" No spoilers as it's an active crossword, but I thought this was brilliant! As usual, Vlad's use of of parentheses in clues is still going strong (and give semantic meaning!)

#crypticcrossword #guardian Today's G crossword 30059 was certainly a race! The theme is patently obvious from the clues, the best one for me: 16,19ac: "9 on and on and on (5-6)". This brought back memories of primary school for me! Also, a nice cricket reference to make this clue work. :)

#crossword #crypticcrossword G crossword: Brendan (30025): 13dn: Like part of ancient Greece that’s accessible by flights? (5) ATTIC -- part of Greece and also accessible "by flights" as in stairs! Brendan is brilliant as this clue helps cement that. Hope you enjoyed it too! :)

Today's G crossword 30,010 set by Brendan (aka Brian Greer) I think Brendan is my favourite and this crossword like all of his are themed. This one was around plus/minus. 20ac: Indication to remove awful clue, not easy to see (9) MINUS (indication to remove something) + CLUE* Genius! :)

#crypticcrosdword G’s Prize, 30002, set by Vlad. No spoilers until next week, but as usual, this is an excellent example of Vlad’s trickiness and excellent clueing humour. I’m about a third of the way in. Might need another sitting before I compete it. Excellent fun so far though!

Looking forward to the 30,000th crossword in Unch. Currently we've published 30, and at 10 puzzles per issue per quarter I think we'll get there in... about the year 2775AD. Stick with us, folks!

#crypticcrossword -- a milestone in the G, 30,000! I won't spoil it for those who've not looked, but there's a lot more going on that meets the eye. The best crossword tie-in I've eve seen, and Arachne is well-deserving of this honour! Hint: if you don't know what a Nina is, look that up... ;)

I’m in the Guardian today; fifteen years since first appeared. I’ve lost mojo but can still write good clues: I get erect when excited hugging adult that might be hot in drag? (1-9) Flooring Keir Starmer – depict end, primarily lost to Reform (13,6) crosswords-static.guim.co.uk/gdn.cryptic....

#crypticcrossword #crossword Today, G's crossword -- 29994 -- was set by Tramp: 9,12dn: "Flooring Keir Starmer – depict end, primarily lost to Reform (13,6)" Nice anagram spot! Def is "flooring". "KEIR STARMER DEPICT E"* -- jumble those, leads to: KIDDERMINSTER CARPET tinyurl.com/55v39hyk

museumofcarpet.org.ukThe last ‘Kidderminster Weave’ Carpet from KidderminsterIn January 2010, The Carpet Museum Trust was delighted to be one of 350 museums selected to display an object from their collection in the BBC History of the World project. There could be no other …

#crypticcrossword G's 29,991, Vulcan's usual Monday slot: 20ac "Have no argument with an Athenian amputee (5)" AGREE -- "A GREE(K)" without its last letter -- someone of Athens would be Greek. Heh. Simple clue, but still found it amusing. :) Imogen (Vulcan is his alter-ego) is tougher!

Guardian's crossword #29988 1ac) "Footballer crossing road to get pound (6)" Def is: "Pound". Footballer is PELE, with ST (for "road") hence: PE ST LE For PESLTE (pound).

#crypticcrossword #crossword Today in the Guardian, 29,985 by Philistine. 5dn: X÷e = 13-19 (4) Def is 13-19, i.e. "TEEN". Why? TEN (X), with E dividing it. Teens are 13-19 years old. A very respectful not to Qaos on this one, who's famed for his maths clues: "1005001001000 -- see? (5)". CLOCK.

#crypticcrossword #crossword #29983 on Friday saw Hat make his debut (my crossword page confirmed it: xteddy.org/gcc-analysis...). Best clue: "Batter, work Frenchman over (6)" - took me a while to equate batter to mean Cricket! I should know better by now. Note the Nina in the grid as well!

xteddy.orgxteddy.orgThis page renders some charts from data gathered via the Guardian newspaper's cryptic and prize crosswords. The data shown here was scraped via the web.

#crypticcrossword #crossword Today's guardian cryptic 29981 by Paul was fun. This was non-smutty Paul on top form. My favourite was: 26ac: "A loch out of which pulled the first old nut (6)": ALMOND. A + L(O)MAND. Excellent clue! Why? You'll figure out why... :)

BTW, 7,23dn is a type of clue which can be really subtle. I know 225 will bear all tomorrow. @boatmancryptics.co.uk — I don’t think there’s spoilers at this point, but for the aforementioned clue, what do you call that type? I hope it has a name?

Interesting ... I suppose other three-letter words are available, but I don't think any of them would fit the clue! All will become clear when discussed next Saturday, I'm sure ... And you're welcome!

After reminiscing a bit after Adams post, I just had to do it. Last time I installed FVWM on Debian, Debian was still in its pre-version 1 days. Nothing special, just default config on a VM. May have to load it up on one of my test systems and have some fun. Trixie + FVWM3
