Round about this time of year I turn to #Genesis. Not really sure why. I think it may be related to ‘No Son of Mine’ coming out this time of year and me being absolutely obsessed with it in 1991 as an angsty 14 yo child of divorce. Anyway, few years ago made this playlist for a mate. Still like it.

Just occurred to me that at some point in the late 80s only the thin line of feedback separated the #JesusandMaryChain from #BillyIdol (cf: the former’s ‘Head On’).

Starting to think we could farm our 3yo out to the highest bidder as an elite torture device.* Meck some brass. * His current habit of jarring, intermittent, context-less screams and wails is truly harrowing. The stuff of psychological warfare. 😖

I’ve been make “noise” in some form or another for 30 years now, on and off (lots of “off”). I think it’s safe to say the global scene (and I’m by no means an expert) is the richest it’s ever been.

This! I’ve been meaning to post about this in recent weeks. For something that was supposed to be about national pride, the sorry-arse state of some of the rags still clinging on for dear life near here is rather symbolic of their empty Nazi talk. Why aren’t you replacing them if you’re so “proud”?

Every time I dig this one out - at least once a year - I get obsessed with it all over again. Anyone else remember The Beyond from Derby? Always find em hard to define, which is a good thing. I hear bits of Voivod, early Therapy?, Rush, FNM, and Helmet. But also there own thing. Love em!

My own submission (Liturgy “93696”) wasn’t picked. But seeing Blur *and* Bolt Thrower (🤘🏻BOLT THROWER!!!!!🤘🏻) here helps alleviate the sting somewhat.

I’m only one track deep into this album and already too excited not to share it. Totally new to #MaryamSirvan. This is five years old. Shame on me. Genuinely unnerving dissonance. But with melody too, to intensify the off-kilter moments all the more. Wow! Just, wow! 😮 #electroacoustic #noise

Any UK folk ordered the Decibel book on Hydra Head Records? If so, where did you order from?

My local LGBTQ bookshop (run by two white non-binary people) recently had windows smashed. There are now constantly middle-aged British Asian men dropping by to check they are doing okay. And the youth club with loadsa queer/neurodivergent kids just got rehoused in the Roma Centre. I love it here.

Vi (fka Teeth Dreams) is always worth a listen.

Rather than pop songs, what the supermarkets should really be playing over the PA is longform, slowly developing drone and sound collage kind of stuff because shoppers would stay in the supermarket to find out what the sound does next, and during that time they’d buy additional stuff.

Released on this day in 1986, happy 40th to "Somewhere in Time". I didn't go to school the first two days after it was released, listening to it on repeat, then leaving the house before the old man got home, 'coming home from school', and listening a few more times. What an album!

This song! It’s just 🔥 !! This is the orchestral mix from the ‘No More Lies’ EP. Beefs up the strings and - unless my ears deceive me - adds some bell action. The instrumental section with Bruce intoning “Blood is falling like the rain/Its crimson cloak unveils again” in the middle is fuckin deadly.

Wedding anniversary at Chez Thrak today. 12 years. So how better to celebrate than a doctored video cover for a band my better half doesn’t really like? 🥳 Love you “Mama”.
