MAJOR NEWS: The Seattle Social Housing Developer is announcing its first new construction project, in the Central District at 2402 E Yesler Way. The SSHD board is set to vote on property acquisition momentarily. Construction is set to start next year and wrap in 2028.

We are breaking ground in so many ways. One of the first housing developers in the country that mandates restorative justice before any eviction proceeding.

A new housing development near Lake Stevens is bulldozing a forest and calling itself The Timbers. Is this sprawling, car-dependent place really the best place to build new homes? Couldn’t we be allowing more housing in our core cities and protecting these forests?

Here's a thought: how about both? How about we provide universal free school meals AND weekend, summer and school break meals?

The fact that drivers may freely menace other road users is one of the most astonishing but least contested aspects of modern life.

It’s been a long road to get to this moment, but i wouldn’t trade it for anything. The road was filled with an unwavering belief in a better housing system. A dedication to achieving what others said was impossible. I’m feeling so proud and humbled today 🥲

This is the moment in a recent Board meeting our Board and staff celebrated our plans to buy our first ever social housing building — Elara at the Market. Today we can finally say we are officially the owners, and social housing is a reality in Seattle!

SSHD will focus on creating 2, 3 and some 4 bedroom homes. These larger family-sized units are rarely built by private market developers as they aren’t “profitable” or often by affordable housing sector due to financing constraints. www.fox13seattle.com/news/seattle...

This is an astronomical showing of the need for deeply affordable housing in our region.

Congrats to Seattle's Social Housing Dept. for acquiring their first building! This creates 60 units of affordable homes & freezes rents for all tenants for two years. And a huge thank you to all the organizers, activists, and voters who made this possible by passing Prop 1A last year 🎉

When did we normalize this? When did it become okay for a president to tell a female reporter she’s a ‘dumb person’ for asking a totally legitimate question about his contradictory answers? Was there a specific date and time it become okay? Normal? Normalized?

Treating homeless people like toxic waste that must be isolated and kept far away from parks and children is blatant dehumanization, whether it's wrapped up in "protect our children" language or said outright.

The Portland - Seattle rivalry is alive and well. Seattle is leading the way on social housing in the US. Tonight we put a down payment on social housing with the passage of our Keep Portland Housed ordinance. We’ve got some catching up to do, but I know we’re built for it.

NOW: B52 bombers are literally in the air on their way to Iran and hundreds of thousands of Iranians are in the streets waving flags and surrounding bridges & power plants. Difficult to imagine this has any precedent in modern warfare. (🎥 Al Jazeera)

House owners who don't want neighborhoods to change coalesce around trees; then, if you don't support their anti-housing agenda, you "hate trees." Apparently, if you support adding and maintaining trees on streets and in parks you also "hate trees." The only way to not hate trees is to hate renters.
