Literally the only bright side of this BC election is that Eby will almost undoubtedly resign after such a massive debacle. He wasn’t remotely popular before he called the election and pissed a lot of people off by calling it 2 years early. He completely misread the room, apparently not… #bcpol

…realizing that when things aren’t going well, people generally want a change, and Eby gave them an opportunity. I am not looking forward to seeing this new Conservative government dismantle social services and privatize everything they can. This will not turn out well.

I’m surprised that I haven’t heard any conspiracy theories about the NBA making Kawhi “demand” to be traded to the Raptors in exchange for a light punishment. Considering how many NBA conspiracies there are out there, this one seems fairly obvious.

I just advance voted. I normally like to vote on the day, but the last time there was a big lineup and my aversion to lineups won over my desire to vote on the day of elections.

Vancouver friends! Day 3 of advance voting for the civic election is today (Saturday, 8am-8pm). I share my recommendations in the piece below. Vancouver’s historic climate leadership hangs in the balance in this municipal election sethdklein.substack.com/p/vancouvers...

Saw I Play Rocky at the Vancouver International Film Festival #viff and was pleasantly surprised. The only downside is knowing what Stallone became.

Bad news for Raptor fans here. Jakob Poeltl doesn’t even make it onto this list.

This is what happens when you surround yourself with sycophants and yes-men. No one to tell him what a stupendously stupid idea this is.

I was disappointed to learn I was not on the short list. Apparently you have to write a book to be on it. Seems rather elitist to me.

This is the utter arrogance of billionaires. He knows he broke the rules. We know he broke rules. But he has spent his life getting away with it so he’s offended when, for once, there are actual control his actions.

I never thought Trump was a smart person, but I think I really underestimated just how stupid he actually was.

Apparently the renaming shenanigans isn’t over. Trump is now floating the idea of changing New Mexico to “New America.”

Damn, I hope he wins.

One of the really unfortunate and annoying side effect of Trump’s attacks against n Canada is it’s made me actually side with Doug Ford on numerous occasions. And the thing is Ford is cut from the same corrupt cloth as Trump.

Doug Ford unveils new Lake Ontario sign and says ‘we’ll never ever back down’ - Ontario Premier Doug Ford has unveiled a new Lake Ontario sign Saturday afternoon, just days after U.S. President Donald Trump renamed the Great Lake as “Lake America.”

If anyone can tell me how any of his actions would be any different if he were a 12 year old petulant boy suddenly given unlimited power, I’d love to hear it.

I can’t imagine caring so much about something I actually care so little about.

The usual excuse behind the rush to build these data centers is "we can't let China get ahead of us". But we seem to have no problem letting China lap us when it comes to renewable energy. Odd, ain't it?

A tale of two dogs. Both rescues. One is 14 and has spent the vast majority of his time with us. He’s now half blind and osteoarthritis in his hind legs, but still the boss of our house. The other is 8 months and more full of constant energy than any being should realistically be. Dogs are awesome.

Seth Lundy had a great game, but Jamarion Sharp actually looks like a legit player, which I didn’t expect. I’d like to see the Raptors give him a 2-way or at least sign him to the 905 roster to give him a chance. You can’t teach height and he can rebound, protect the paint and has decent hands.

Seth Lundy knocks down 6 threes as the Raptors win in NBA Summer League play! Tyreke Key: 19 PTS (4-6 FGM), 3 3PM Jamarion Sharp: 17 PTS (5-5 FGM), 7 REB, 2 BLK Bruce Thornton: 17 PTS, 6 REB, 6 AST, 5 STL

For those who complained about me not liking the number of picks the Raptors gave up for Kawhi, Philly gave up less for a player 6 years younger and without an injury history. I’m excited to see Kawhi on the Raptors this season, but I think I my concerns about the Raptors bidding against themselves…

Shams Charania Tweets@shamsbot.bsky.social

Just in on @SportsCenter -- Boston sends Jaylen Brown to Philadelphia for Paul George and picks in a stunning blockbuster between East rivals:

…are justified and I wonder if they could have gotten Brown for Ingram and Dick plus draft picks. Brown isn’t as good as Kawhi, but he’s also not nearly the risk and would likely have given them several more years of a window to compete.

A few Kawhi notes: - Kawhi is now the only Raptor on the roster from the 2019 title team - the Raptors will likely have the strongest front court in the league. If they can somehow get Steven Adams they might have the strongest in NBA history - Boisterous Scottie and Cyborg Kawhi on the same team…

So, I do think the Raptors improve quite a bit in the short term but losing control of 3 first round picks for a 35 year old with a long injury history while seemingly bidding against no one reminds me a bit of the deals they gave BI, IQ and Poeltl.

One important fact. Only 15 players have ever made an All Star game after the age of 35. That’s only 3 more than have walked on the moon. I’m not saying Kawhi won’t be #16, but the odds, and his injury history, are against it.
