Still seems like there ought to be two AA majority districts to represent NO and BR, but simulations of compact districts suggest that would be unlikely. We get one packed district though instead of possible 2 competitive ones GIFT ARTICLE www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

Thanks, SCOTUS, for reminding us we're supposed to forget about that whole Jim Crow business that has no affect on our current situation (Voting Rights Act gutted) \sarcasm

My critique: compact districts don't necessarily make sense with our riverine population density distribution. We live along the rivers, this isn't Kansas - can a gerrymandering expert weigh in?

What if the race-blind simulations had the target shape elongated in the general direction of the rivers rather than a circle or square? - IDK the answer, but maybe a data or math person can tell us

Sorry, not sorry; I want the people who chose these new paint colors in 2015-16 to do jail time. On the right are the old colors

Observations: Kool-Aid needs some help. Sanker is growing strongly. Elliss is hit or miss. Chase Young ain't about bullshit. Alvin Kamara still got it given the right plays. Who the fuck is picking kickers anymore? Tyler Shough is singlehandedly holding this team together with zero support.

🚨NEW STORY🚨 Farmer Jamie Davis is closing the gap as he bids to be Louisiana’s first Black U.S. Senator since Reconstruction, leaving Julia Letlow without the sure victory Republicans had hoped for. "This is not going to be a slam dunk," a pollster warns. thelensnola.org/2026/10/23/j...

My foot touches the varnished 1910 footboard from a 1980 estate sale and I feel the passage of time and the soul of a tree

Hike and bike trails on the Miss River Levee trails all have posted signs “motorized vehicles prohibited,” but constant stream of e-motorcycles with throttles going 30+ mph with no enforcement by levee police. Motorcycles should be on River Rd, not the MRT bike path

Streaming movie rec: Not my usual cup-of-tea; doc about life of Jayne Mansfield, her lovers, and her children, by her daughter, actress Mariska Hargitay is something else - heartbreaking, courageous, wonderful, generous, and a window into the recent past - My Mom Jayne (HBO Max)

Oh, yeah, and also, they should be registered, have appropriate lights and mirrors, and operator should be required to have a motorcycle license

TK_Wharton

Problem with that strategy, however, is the inability to enforce (or even have the po-po understand the classes). Better to ban anything with a motor from bike lanes

As an almost daily push-bike rider around the city, I can tell you that the motorized "bikes" are becoming a major hazard

What I've always thought is that e-bikes will ruin things for normal bicycles. Cities will make no distinction between them as they tighten regulations lailluminator.com/2026/10/22/r...

lailluminator.comE-bikes now rival motorcycles for speed. State and city laws haven’t caught up. • Louisiana IlluminatorA string of high-profile deaths and injuries involving electric scooters and bikes is spurring states and cities across the country to crack down on them.

I'm not against e-bikes, but Class-2 or -3 are motorcycles and should be banned from bike lanes. I'm ok with Class-1 pedal assist with 20 MPH max using bike lanes, but anything with a throttle is a motorcycle and does NOT belong in bike lanes

There's a whole youtube genre of Gen-Z people watching 1930s-1960s films for the first time, and, having grown up on these, I find it hilarious and endearing. How they react to B&W is, by itself, hilarious
