The second event, ‘Fixing the “Plumbing and Wiring” in Adult Social Care’ with #SocialCareFuture and the Time to Act Board, built on previous success that has influenced the next phase of the Care Quality Commission’s Local Authority assurance assessments.

Both events made the need to renew our collective focus on the principles of choice and control clear. They also highlighted the sector’s determination to see this realised.

The first event, ‘Relighting the fire of choice and control’ with The North West Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS), In Control, and Community Catalysts, focused on service improvement in the North West.

Yesterday, Jennifer Pearl, a member of NCAG, attended The Care Workers' Charity’s afternoon tea at the House of Lords. The event was an opportunity to celebrate the contribution care workers make to the lives of people who draw on care and support, their families, and their communities.

The conversations throughout the afternoon centred on the opportunities and challenges facing the care workforce, and the importance of working together to ensure care workers are recognised, valued, and supported.

The event focused on how digital tools, better data sharing and stronger collaboration can support more joined-up, preventative and person-centred care. It highlighted the importance of co-production and starting with people, not technology.

Every two years, Nottinghamshire County Council holds a Big Conversation, where it asks people who draw on care and support and family carers to discuss their experiences of social care. TLAP and NCAG have been working with them and Our Voice to deliver the latest Big Conversation.

Together we: ✅ Co-produced the approach and engagement programme ✅ Delivered bespoke facilitation training ✅ Spoke with voluntary organisations, providers and community groups ✅ Helped ensure lived experience remained at the heart of decision-making
