Earlier today I passed by a parking spot right in front of my apartment. It was like, “No way! That won’t fit my car.” Parked several blocks away. Then just walked out to see a similar sized car had made the park!! Weird to wanna leave a note that I was impressed by their parking skills!?

I couldn't get the cat's walk to look quite right. I think the "run-state" will be a bit easier. I'm constantly amazed how much I can get out of 8x8 pixels. It's so fun to work with.

As I was building this out, I played it quite a bit. And 1000+ seemed like a ceiling with my scoring model. Now wondering if 1500 isn’t possible…?

Originally, I just had it simple - eat+1. But I liked having more food available - it plays a little faster. And, I wanted to reward efficiency. So, you're encouraged to eat the closest food. Also, to discourage "back switching", where you just get a rhythm. This would drain your score now.

Ok, mobile seems to look and work ok. Well.. at least for my iPhone mini 13. I kinda started this project inspired by the old brick-phone snake game that came preinstalled in the late 90s-early 2000s. So you might see *a bit* of the design inspiration here.... 🤷

The reason why the mobile buttons are GIGANTIC is so you can tap the dpad with yr peripherals while focusing on the game. Using the keyboard arrow keys on a computer is still better, but this layout it’s pretty close. I still hit the wrong direction I want on mobile, but less often with a big area.

Adding some simple sprites to my Snake game. Happy with the "munch". Works pretty well for 5x5px and 2 frames. I have the "open-mouth" sprite show when the snake is 1 block away. There are 2 foods, apple and blueberry 🍎 🫐, and I made sure the "munch" splashes their color 💦. #indiegame #indiedev

Mobile should be working now. It made me realize how retro gaming on a touchscreen is really hard. Kinda makes sense why all the mobile games had to take a new approach to "controls." A simple D-pad isn't very intuitive on a touchscreen. You really need to feel the buttons to control things well.
