Great news for Toronto! 15 elected candidates pledged to vote for a moratorium on AI data centres, a maximum temperature bylaw to protect renters, more trees and shade, cutting single-use plastics, and greener buildings. That’s a majority for these key environmental priorities. #topoli

This is why voters need to know where candidates for Mayor stand on AI data centres in Toronto #topoli

BREAKING: This @microsoft.com-backed data center was just hit with *another* lawsuit. This one alleging it was improperly built in a residential area and could cause flooding in nearby neighborhoods. #GreenSky

Premier Ford’s government is about to start ripping out bike lanes without the consent of Toronto City Council. This morning, we stood with Etobians and Torontonians in defence of these bike lanes that are keeping all road users safer. There's a demonstration today at 5pm at Tom Riley Park!

We’re asking the Supreme Court of Canada to hear our case and defend our Charter right to life and security of the person (s. 7). Stand in solidarity with protesters and exercise your Charter right to peaceful assembly (s. 2(c)). Oct 13. 5pm to late Tom Riley Park (Bloor & Islington)

Time for some election fact checking on Toronto's water budget. We heard a claim from candidate Brad Bradford today that implied that the City's capital reserve fund for water infrastructure like sewers, pipes, and water treatment is unnecessary. This is dangerous and short-sighted. 1/4 #topoli

This fund builds our water filtration plants, our watermains and sewers, our basement flooding protection infrastructure, and a lot more. It's not a frill. We just dealt with a 100-year storm that would have been much more damaging if Toronto hadn't invested into #floodprotection measures. 3/4

Flood protection measures, like naturalizing the mouth of the Don and upgrading sewers in key flood-prone areas, mitigate the damage from events like the recent 100-year storm. It would be a very big mistake to drain the resources we have to protect our city from worsening #climateimpacts. 4/4

We want to underline how dangerous and short-sighted it would be to drain this reserve, or put it into provincial hands. This infrastructure is a big part of preventing more catastrophic flooding, as #climatechange sends more extreme storms and rain our way. This fund is necessary. 2/4

Thank you to the Councillors who raised the big concerns with AI data centres. Because of your work, all new applications for major data centres will be getting more scruting going into 2027. @diannesaxe.bsky.social @chrismoises.bsky.social @alejandrabravo.bsky.social, & Parthi Kandavel

AI data centres around the world are using up too much energy & water. Toronto needs to pause approvals of new large data centres until their full impacts are known. Read our letter to Council here: https://loom.ly/2HIVMD8

We did it! 📢 The Feds are blocking the Toronto Island airport jet expansion. Working alongside many allies, through community canvassing, outreach & thousands of emails directed to Federal MPs, it was clear, we do not want jets on Toronto Island. People power works. Thanks to everyone! #nojetsTO

TEA's @how-sen.com spoke to the Star yesterday and summed up our situation: “The unfortunate reality is that this extreme weather and wildfire smoke is not natural,” Chong said. “It is man-made. It is a result of decades of burning natural gas, gasoline, coal, burning garbage.” Read the article ⬇️

“If we want to make sure that the number of extreme weather events, of heat days & wildfire events, doesn’t increase exponentially, we need to stop burning things for energy,” says @how-sen.com from @toenviro.bsky.social in @thestar.com www.thestar.com/news/gta/tor...

BREAKING: City Council has voted to accelerate the development of a Maximum Temperature Bylaw from 2028 to June, 2027. The climate is getting hotter. After years of work by TEA and our allies, we are relieved to see a faster timeline.

CTVNews news coverage of TEA and allies press conference on the need for tenant heat protection. We're continuing the fight for a bylaw that would require landlords to keep indoor temperatures below 26°C. Watch it here: https://loom.ly/pBdDjaw #topoli
