Briefed Ambassadors of G77 + China group in New York. We discussed crises pushing 87m people to edge, unacceptable attacks on aid workers, and the transparency that must underpin everything we do, including OCHA's next Strategic Plan. Thanks Uruguay for leading the exchange.

One year since devastating atrocities in El Fasher, nearly 900,000 displaced people are sheltering in Tawila.   Civilians there told me they need protection, aid and accountability. Instead they are at prolonged risk, aid budgets have been cut, and no accountability. #Sudan

El Niño is here: breaking all the wrong records, compounding and accelerating. Disasters over the past weeks are part of same trend: a climate emergency hitting most vulnerable hardest and fastest, destroying homes and livelihoods, and displacing families and communities.

Millions of people in humanitarian crises are right now facing toughest moments of their life. Thank you Angelina Jolie for consistently placing empathy, dignity, resilience and human agency at the heart of our discussions and our action.

Escalating hostilities and renewed insecurity are deepening the humanitarian crisis in northern Ethiopia.

I’ve allocated $8.5M from UN’s Global Emergency Fund CERF to help humanitarians move fast, with shelter, health and nutrition, protection, water and sanitation services.

Thank you to EU Ministers for chance to join them in Dublin. My challenges to humanitarian community and supporters … Is reform yet meeting the moment? How do we reconnect with public? And who will help reimagine humanitarianism?

We are monitoring developments following the 7.7 earthquake in #Panama and stand ready to support national efforts. I’m in touch with Foreign Minister Martínez-Acha Vásquez.

My interview from Dublin with Morning Ireland on the humanitarian challenges we are facing and more.👇

Life for people in Gaza "remains absolutely horrendous" with 90% of people living in temporary shelters, a high-ranking UN official has said.

Always privilege to spend time with Irish Prime Minister, Taoiseach Micheal Martin. His principled leadership and practical experience are crucial to crises - where we are delivering humanitarian support against odds.

Busy day of discussions and media in London. Big focus on next steps to reach 87m people with lifesaving support this year, plus humanitarian diplomacy on Sudan, Somalia, Middle East, Yemen, El Niño.

Excellent to meet UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband in London to discuss how we are future proofing the humanitarian sector to continue saving millions of lives. Thanks to UK for support and partnership.

In northern #Ethiopia, our teams are working to get life-saving food, health and other help to people in need. Fighting continues to harm and displace civilians, drive up needs and disrupt our work. All parties must give aid workers safe and rapid access.

Welcome news that humanitarians can continue to use Adre border crossing between Chad and Sudan.
A vital lifeline for people in Darfur and one of my key access asks at #UNGA.
Thanks to the authorities in both countries. This action saves lives.

The world’s most overlooked crises cannot become forgotten crises. I've approved $160M from the UN Global Emergency Fund, CERF for 12 underfunded crises, with $10M set aside so people with disabilities aren't left behind. 87m people to reach. No time to waste.

In #Zimbabwe, the forecasts are in. Prolonged dry spells are coming. El Niño is bearing down.

$4M from UN’s Global Emergency Fund CERF for anticipatory action will help get food, health and nutrition in before the drought arrives, not after it destroys.

Appalling reports from #Myanmar's Rakhine State. An airstrike on a market in Kyauktaw has reportedly killed and injured dozens.

Civilians must be protected.

International humanitarian law must be respected.

Humanitarians are staying and delivering despite the danger.

A worsening drought in South Sudan, driven in part by the ongoing El Niño, is putting lives and livelihoods at risk.

I’ve allocated $6M from UN’s Global Emergency Fund CERF to support early action, including food, health, nutrition, protection, water and sanitation services.

Grateful to Archbishop of Canterbury for her voice on humanitarian crises. When wars end, communities must be reconciled. That patient, human work of healing is often led by faith. Our common cause: protecting people, upholding principle and building conditions for lasting peace.

Spoke with #Cuba's Foreign Minister Rodriguez at #UNGA on Cuba's deteriorating humanitarian situation. We're on the ground, supporting the response and pushing for unimpeded aid. We need fuel for hospitals and civilian infrastructure.

Substantive discussion on global crises and where United Arab Emirates can help us unblock access constraints for humanitarian action. With Sheikh Abdullah, DPM and Minister for Foreign Affairs.

Met with Foreign Minister of Iran Araghchi to discuss the humanitarian situation in the region, humanitarian access constraints, and prospects for diplomacy and deescalation.

Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi of Jordan has been such a great colleague this week, especially on protection of aid workers. #Jordan is backing access corridors for aid, field hospitals in Palestine and much more. We need this leadership to get lifesaving help in before winter.

We’re at business end of UN week. Let’s now test if commitments translate to lives saved. All week, local leaders – not me – have led us. We passed yesterday 40m people reached so far this year. In awe of humanitarian movement that has done that, against the odds.

Discussed Afghanistan, Syria and other humanitarian priorities with HH Prince Rahim Aga Khan V at #UNGA. I saw Aga Kahn Development Network’s impact firsthand in Gilgit Baltistan in July, where communities are better prepared for likely floods.

With #Panama's Foreign Minister Javier Martínez-Acha Vásquez we discussed global humanitarian needs, the effects of El Niño and preparedness in the region. #UNGA

Concrete results and action on the spot – important meeting at #UNGA81 with Qatar's Minister of International Cooperation Dr. Mariam bint Ali bin Nasser Al-Misnad Diplomacy, mediation expertise and convening power that leads to results for humanitarian action.

On Day 5(00) of #UNGA, the focus has been on the detail of the ten asks we’ve set out for this week. Plus making the case through the media for why the public should back humanitarians. Working together across humanitarian leadership. And drawing strength from great ancestors.

Échanges fructueux le ministre des Affaires étrangères de Burkina Faso, Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré. Chocs climatiques exacerbant les besoins humanitaires. +12M de personnes dans le besoin au Sahel central. Financements largement insuffisants. #UNGA

Crucial meeting at UNGA with Lebanon's Prime Minister Nawaf Salam and UN Principals. Attacks on healthcare. Movement restrictions. Infrastructure repairs blocked. The UN and the Government have shared goals: protect civilians, open access, uphold international humanitarian law.

El Niño is bearing down on a country already on the edge. And we need to unblock every chokehold standing between food and the people who desperately need it. Met #Somalia's Deputy Prime Minister Salah Jama. #UNGA.

Met Vice-President Al-Alimi Bawzer at #UNGA. Funding is falling short in Yemen. Conflict is escalating. Access is a daily challenge. With it we could reach 3m more people in extreme need. We agreed to work for it, and for full protection of humanitarians.
