Not So BigQuery #301 is out - Halloween edition 🎃 New BQ releases worth a look: 📁 ObjectRef is now GA: GCS files as columns in your own tables (not just read-only external tables) • AI.CHUNK_DOCUMENT for RAG chunks • AI.TRANSLATE in BQ ML • Conversation logging for agents

One thing Gemini is genuinely good at: reducing my Google Cloud bill. Noticed a service called Artifact Registry become the 3rd biggest item on my monthly spend. Gemini spotted it was old site images I could safely delete. A 5-minute job for a few $/month saved from now on.

Having a baby is the Hunger Games: nobody sleeps, nobody leaves, and eventually the two of us turn on each other.

Do we still put Python and JavaScript as skills in our CV although we didn't write a single line of code this year?

Feature request: add a `reclaim-tokens` command to get an automatic token refund if the output misses the mark.

DeepSeek has pretty much opened up their whole AI work to the public. You could say they make open AI.

My little newsletter reaches issue #300 tomorrow. It's been running for more than five years without any AI involved. Just good old RSS and a few custom scripts. If you're into data on Google Cloud, sign up here for free: app.mailbrew.com/tgel0/not-s...

The Argon release being Ultra-only proves my point that Google has a naming/positioning gap for it's AI Pro sub.

Google should rename their AI Pro subscription. The $10 monthly Cloud credit is half the price. Then there is 5 TB of storage (family-sharing eligible!), YouTube Premium Lite, Google Home Premium, Google Health Premium. It's basically a Google ecosystem bundle with AI on top.

Setting up a custom domain used to be the most annoying part of starting a new project: copy values, create new records, wait. Now I have one agent with my Cloudflare access and another one with my Firebase access and they just talk to each other and get it done.

Aldi and Lidl are slowly taking over US. It's a shame we can't participate in the recent success of German discounters abroad because they aren't public.

My late granddad used to herd sheep for a living. Now I'm closing the loop by herding coding agents.

Before you click send on that email or post, ask your agent: “What do you think this is saying?” There’s often a gap between what you meant and what readers actually hear.

I was about to post about my HelloFresh lifehack (cancel, wait 2 weeks, get 50% comeback offer) only to wake up to this email:

My last dog-treat order from Wolt: €26.94 total (same price as in-store) – €2.69 discount (Wolt+) ± €0 delivery (also Wolt+, delivered by car!) + €1.45 service fee = €25.70 How does a delivery service actually make money?

Babyflation update: the baby now needs a whole checked bag of its own.

Tomi Gelo@tomigelo.com

2 adults + 1 baby = 100% more laundry. I guess that's what they call babyflation.

PRO-TIP: before paying 100s of $ for extra storage check your Google Photos. I just freed up almost 35GB on my phone by simply deleting local copies of my pics/videos.

Having a baby on holiday feels like a space mission: everything is timed, gear list is endless, and one missing piece of cargo can ground the whole operation.

Just closed my work laptop. Euromaxxing starts now: 2 months of parental leave plus almost a month of vacation.

Now I can finally color-code my alerts.

StockTalker AI@stocktalkerai.com

StockTalker AI gives you 4 flags that keep alerts organized: --list group by sector/watchlist --note attach context --pin keep at top --color visual coding stocktalkerai alert create "NVDA above $900" --list tech --note "breakout" --pin --color green

Update: 1 adult = 90% less laundry (babyflation is spending the week at the grandparents)

Mostly thanks to Chinese open-weight models and minimal regulation BTW

Nowhere is “competition benefits the customer” more visible than in AI.

Buying a Google Fitbit Air as a parent of a 9-month old is basically paying someone to bully you about how little sleep you get.

Prediction: the future of SaaS is building for agents, not for humans. My stock monitoring side project just went agent-first: let your Claude or Hermes agent watch the market for you. Check it out if you're into agents & trading.

StockTalker AI@stocktalkerai.com

UPDATE: StockTalker AI now has a CLI for AI agents. It all began as a simple dashboard for natural-language alerts: *Alert me when Apple hits $400* Now that same power is available to your agents (Hermes, Codex and more) ↓

FIFA World Cup 2026 so far: • Teams: 48 • Matches: 94/104 • Attendance: 6.1M • Goals: 275 • Offside goals disallowed for “hairline flick”: 1 • Red cards for "mouth-cover": 2 • Red cards overturned by POTUS: 1 • Hydration breaks that were actually just commercials: 188

Apparently my side project is now interesting enough for scammers to copy. (If someone DMs you about investments from 'me' - it's not me.)

StockTalker AI@stocktalkerai.com

Heads up: someone on Threads is pretending to be us. We don't do WhatsApp investment plans. We don't do DMs about "exclusive opportunities." We do alerts. That's it.

My wife and I keep bringing home meat that's about to expire (1-2 days left). Even saw expired stuff at the store recently. Guess it's time to find a good nearby butcher.

Before AI, my monthly cloud spend was under 10 bucks while making 0 on my side projects. Now thanks to AI I'm paying almost €100/month for Google AI Pro, Google Cloud, Ollama Pro etc. while still making 0 on my side projects.
