“Canada to join EU” is such an irritating non-story. Geography is destiny. Canada would have to change a load of agri regs and INFURIATE the Québécois dairy farmers to join the SM, total no-no.

Further to last RT, this is why those headlines about Canada being done with the US, permanent state of trade war, Canada joining the EU etc are so overheated. Ford (and Carney) swing between emollience and aggression. Canada will need to deal, just not on the terms Trump offered the other week.

Must be a strange feeling when your net worth goes up and down by several hundred billion. Not sure I could live with the volatility. 🙄

Typically good by @duncanweldon.bsky.social. I've long wondered whether we're all suffering from Generalized Anxiety Disorder where every new thing becomes something to attribute deep concern to. The last decade's political, economic, & epidemiological events have created a particular environment.

In Mexico, income transfers targeted at women are effective at improving their decision-making position within the household, translating into significant changes in household consumption and time allocation patterns.

WTO head ‘certifies’ 67-member E-Commerce Agreement. What does that mean? Uncertainty remains about the agreement’s status in the WTO, and the roles of the WTO’s head and its Secretariat, while the pact is blocked from being added formally to WTO rules. tradebetablog.wordpress.com/2026/06/11/w...

In 1Q2026 China's crude oil imports from Russia have risen to all-time highs. Not surprising. Also, the discount Russia has to give to China was substantially smaller in March (2.9%) than in the previous months. The US attack on Iran has been an economic boon for Russia...

"..federal budget revenues contracted by 10 % y-o-y in January-February. Revenue growth was hit particularly hard by a sharp drop in oil & gas revenues, which were down by nearly 50 % for the two-month period. Much of the decline was due to plunging export prices for Russian oil."
