Having simultaneous knowledge of all of human output (even if blurry) makes models good at programming and math but bad at art because there is no perspective. Good art is always about subjective experience and the negative space of your subjective experience defines it just as much as the positive.

Hi friends! Today I'd like to share a peek behind the scenes of A Firm Handshake! Like Klifur, A Firm Handshake has very simple physics behind the scenes. The characters are actually just floating boxes. Each character also has a left and right foot target.

Hello friends! We've been quiet for a while but thank you for waiting if you're still here. We are working on new stuff I'm excited to share soon but for now I'd like to show some new perspectives on our past releases! Klifur has very simple physics behind the scenes. I'd like to explain briefly.

Changed my profile picture because people kept thinking I was Neil Armstrong (or that Neil Armstrong was me). I'm not Neil Armstrong!

Walk is very cool! A little game poem made up of a bunch of even smaller game poems. Very satisfying to play and gorgeous to look at.

Making games that are not just for gamers has really shown me how high of a barrier to entry Steam is. I'm trying to reach a wider audience by releasing things that were previously only on itch on Steam but a web playable game on itch is so much more accessible to most people than a Steam game is.

I really vastly prefer watching or listening to stuff that is sponsor-free and instead supported through something like Patreon. Those just seem like such unicorns, though, and game productions operate on such a different timeline (unless you're sokpop)

That being said, I'm also interested in trying to make smaller games and releasing things more often. Maybe I should just be yeeting things online and giving people ways to pay me to keep doing that. Or see if squarespace wants to sponsor my next game.

Really makes me want to figure out a way to make more things for web sustainably. One thought that came to mind was some kind of sponsorship arrangement. YouTubers and podcasters have figured out how to keep their work highly accessible while still making money. It's a huge tradeoff, though.

A weird thing happened to me recently. I've almost completely lost any desire to play video games. I haven't played a video game other than my own or games of friends and students for feedback purposes for the past year or so.

Maybe the desire will come back. I have a long list of games I've been meaning to play that look really cool and interesting and are made by people I respect and want to support. Part of it is maybe feeling stuck with my own work. Maybe releasing my next game will unlock something.

Anyway. I'm not sure why but I suddenly had the urge to post about this. Maybe someone who reads this has also been having these feelings and feels a little bit better hearing about it like I did.

He didn't say it to imply those films aren't worth his time or anything like that. He just said it very matter-of-factly. He spent most of his life watching a lot of films but now he prefers to walk or spend time with his dogs when he's not working rather than watch films.

Maybe spending time doing these other things lets him bring something new to his work rather than letting other films influence him too much. I hope that I can do that with my work, too. I've played many games over the past decades and I know I tend to be very influenced by games I like.

I want to keep making them. It's still deeply satisfying to me to make a playful interactive thing and watch someone react to it. It's become very hard to imagine other people wanting to play my games, though, when my interest in playing games generally is mostly gone.

I feel really bad about it. I don't like being a game developer who doesn't play games. Last year I went to a Q&A with one of my favorite film directors, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, and he said he hadn't watched a film other than his own in 10 years and it made me feel a bit better.

Hey! I've started a new label for my personal work called My Little Computer Friends and the first game under that label is coming out on Steam soon! Check it out!
