Congratulations to the connectbayarea.com campaign! We were glad to make a small cash donation as their massive signature-gathering drive got underway, and are thrilled to see this transit-funding measure heading to November ballots across five SF Bay Area counties:
A measure that'd inject some $310M into BART and keep it (and other Bay Area transit agencies) from potentially collapsing has reached its signature-gathering goal. Yes, you'll be voting on this in November. missionlocal.org/2026/05/bart...
The California Coastal Commission recently updated YourCoast, an interactive web map of over 1,600 public access points. You can filter by restrooms, surfing, camping, dog-friendliness, stroller access, car parking... What you can't filter by is public transit www.interline.io/blog/riding-...
Thanks to @thecacoast.bsky.social's open data, we've found that a clear majority of California coastal access points are accessible via public transit:
The linked blog post includes a Python script if you'd also like to combine California coastal access points (or any other GIS features) with Transitland Datasets: www.interline.io/blog/riding-...
Great work by University of Illinois's Urban Traffic & Economics Lab to curate and create GTFS data for many intercity bus routes. We've added their feed into the Transitland Atlas and its routes, stops, schedules, etc. can now be queried using Transitland's APIs: www.transit.land/feeds/f-utel...
A GTFS-Based Dataset for the US Intercity Bus Network
The UIUC UTEL Intercity Bus feed is now nicely providing more coverage and detail in Transitland's global transit map Pan and zoom around at www.transit.land/map (Or you can add Transitland's MVT tiles into your own creations)
Some existing feeds were sourced from Transitland to enrich in the UIUC UTEL Intercity Bus feed. This is a great example of how open data powers "virtuous cycles" 🔄 Thanks to the research team for carefully documenting their sources: github.com/UTEL-UIUC/in... We hope they'll keep updating this!
Transitland's new Pathways Explorer lets anyone visualize subway/train/bus station layouts, inspect wheelchair-accessible routes, and test station navigation using GTFS-Pathways data in public feeds. More on our blog at www.interline.io/blog/explore...
Zip archives are wrappers. To identify a GTFS feed, you have to unwrap it and look inside... More on how Transitland minimizes unnecessary duplication on our blog at www.interline.io/blog/gtfs-ch...
Built with Transitland: "A subway arrivals sign using an off-the-shelf sign and a Raspberry Pi. No soldering skills required." The creator has been generous enough to share their instructions and source code: github.com/mdejean/signpi
Explore GTFS-Pathways station data using Transitland's global transit map: 1) Click the gear icon to access advanced settings 2) Enable all stop types 3) Move your cursor over stop points 4) Notice the icons for station entrances and other station pathway nodes (This example shows @mbta.com)
Transitland's global transit map now provides info on bus, subway, train, and ferry stops around the world: 1) Zoom in 2) Click on a stop point 3) Drill down into Transitland's full depth of information, including real-time departures Try Transitland global transit map at www.transit.land/map
Whether you're an analyst learning your way around GTFS data or a transit agency staffer trying to quickly debug your own systems, Transitland now provides the tools you need to automatically parse and read GTFS Realtime feeds: www.interline.io/blog/easily-...
Transitland parses thousands of #GTFS and GTFS Realtime feeds using our Go-based "transitland-lib" software library. On the occasion of its v1.0.0 release, we thought we'd blog about its speed, flexibility, and capabilities:
Together with a number of small refinements and large refactoring for future functionality, we've added a "dark" mode to the Transitland website. Try it out at https://www.transit.land
The US Federal Transit Administration extended the comment period to January 29 re requiring transit agencies to insert their National Transit Database IDs into GTFS feeds. Our critical feedback:
A snazzy project using Transitland's departures API: www.instructables.com/NYC-Ferry-Sc...
We've refined Transitland's global map to emphasize where riders can access the most frequent transit service. Thanks to staff at San Francisco's transit agency (including @jeffreytumlin.bsky.social) for informing this improvement: www.interline.io/blog/giving-...
You are up to date.
