Reintroducing myself! PhD in biology here, also a rocket scientist; landed something on the Moon this year! I organized for gun violence prevention in Texas a decade, so I’m good at talking to conservatives. Thinking it’s time to get involved again after a decade-long break. PS: queer af.

The number one piece of advice I wish someone had given me when I came out as trans: pick a name that was popular in your birth year and NOT in your coming out year.

I think I saw that Juno is the third most common name for babies born six years ago, and so people are gonna spend the next forty years either thinking I’m forty years younger than I am or that I’m probably trans.

Transgender visibility is not a positive without strong civil rights. I’d much rather be invisible in this climate, please and thank you.

Also, gentle reminder that referring to a binary trans person as they/them is just another way of reminding that person of his or her visibility. Can you please not let me and everyone else know you’ve clocked me?

Y’all, if you have ADHD and you struggle with perpetual fear your friends are all going to abandon you, with attachment anxiety, and with self-critique, consider asking your doctor about alpha-2 adrenergic agonists.

This message brought to you by me forgetting to take my clonidine the other day and suddenly remembering the terribly fragile and insecure person I used to be. PS: clonidine is not Klonipin. They are NOT the same, don’t mix them up.

I know some people who spend all their money on cosmetic surgery chasing an unobtainable ideal. I also know some people who’ve spent every penny and then some becoming who they’ve always wanted to be. 1/2

What can be more of a confidence boost than knowing you’d give all your early possessions to be yourself — and that you actually succeeded and are now that person? Anyway, that’s how I feel about gender affirming surgery — whether it’s for cis people or trans. 2/2

Sometimes when I show up early for my flight I walk in on the arrivals level and then walk right out the door again so I get the extra dopamine rush of *arriving* in a place

You push the request stop button on the airport bus just before the airport stop on the off chance that the bus won’t actually stop at the airport because no one pushed the button

Tfw a syringe (for estrogen) and an emergency narcan dose fall out of your bag in front of people at the same time, at work 😳

Last week I learned that the magic phrase in a political campaign which serves to create a contrast between a candidate and her opponent is, “I am the only candidate in this race who…” and since then I’ve been seeing it *everywhere*.

Btw if you’re just joining me: I’m the only poster on this app whose username is a pun about both being trans and having helped land something on the Moon last year.

Today I strung together my first full real sentence (albeit with a comma splice) in Ukrainian while talking with my coworker friend: Так, але думаю що, чому то ця пісня нова для мене, не люблю цю пісню, мені подобається ця пісня ☺️

Yesterday, I replaced the Tesla (the unit of magnetic field strength) with the Ohm (the unit of resistance). It’s my first time manufacturing an art project of my own design.

The left: I hope the rest of the world understands that many of us didn’t vote for Trump and don’t support him. Also the left: Maybe Texas should have thought twice before they voted for Trump if they didn’t want a bunch of kids to drown.

I don’t know what to say today. I haven’t felt this scared for my country since 2007, when I and my friends survived the then-worst mass shooting in US history, at Virginia Tech. 1/

On this Independence Day, reach out to those cousins you’ve been afraid to talk to because of their politics. Don’t even argue with them. Just ask them questions and listen to their answers. 3/

Paraphrase aloud and try to understand what they’re saying and where they’re coming from. It all starts with listening, with helping people feel heard. We have no choice any longer. Divided we fall. 4/4

One thing I’m learning is that autocracy is found in the attitudes of people on both sides of the aisle — and until we can learn to embrace one another even in our disagreements, Trump will continue to exploit our divisions to prop up his corrupt, incompetent regime. 2/

Today, the Supreme Court voted 6–3 that Christian nationalist ideology trumps the rights of trans people to receive medically necessary care. The ruling applies to children, but it’s a blueprint for expanding such bans to adults.

They are trying to erase us from public life. Make no mistake, this decision won’t “untrans” anyone, but it’ll definitely unalive people.

There are a lot of reasons it feels hard for me to visit South Carolina, but I’m not mad about the enormous raindrops and thunderstorm sound effects happening right now.

After all the crap about TikTok spying, we all knew Meta was doing this but also JESUS

do not install any app from Facebook or Meta on any device. Ideally avoid installing ANY social media app. Login through a browser. I highly doubt Facebook is the only company pulling this shit www.zeropartydata.es/p/localhost-...

see, the thing *i’m* genuinely worried about is that RFK will effectively ban vaccines

Breaking:   WASHINGTON (AP) - Health secretary removes every member of scientific committee that advises the CDC on how vaccines should be used.

This is a pretty important point!

The correct way to connect the authoritarian presence in LA and the Big Beautiful Bill is that the bill gives the government the resources to do this in dozens of cities at once. So if you don't like what's happening in LA, it's coming to your town if the bill passes.

I just had a very bad dysphoria day and then as I was walking out of the grocery store parking lot this guy yelled out his car window, “you too fine to be walking by yo self,” and I know a lot of y’all hate cat calls but that was exactly what I needed just now.

Y’all, I’ve been trying to attend my local (Alameda County, CA) Democratic Party meetings for months now. Today I showed up in person and it’s behind a locked gate at the local Teamsters. In the Zoom, they won’t admit you unless you’re a member. How does someone actually join this organization?

Deporting gay people to Russia is inhumane.

Talking about economic issues does not have to come at our expense. You don’t have to step on us to fix the Democratic Party; you just need to actually address the economic insecurity people have been feeling while oligarchs took over our country (not a new thing, started three decades ago).

I actually think the main goal here is to own the libs, but that doesn’t make this any less of an act of violence against the public — NOT the libs, but the public itself.

The fact that they would still give Covid boosters to people over 65 and people with preconditions means they know the boosters work and are needed. There is literally no justification for taking them away from everyone else besides just being huge dicks
