NEW: 344,000 additional new jobs. An extra €18 billion injected into the European auto industry. This is what is on the table with EU-wide electrification targets for large fleets, while limiting national benefits to electric Made-in-Europe company cars. Explore the report ➡️ bit.ly/3U6Ewqc

The cost of driving a plug-in hybrid is now up to €680 a year higher than carmakers claim. That’s why the EU should uphold the upcoming correction to PHEV emissions accounting to make sure consumers aren’t being cheated by misleading data. Explore the data in our new analysis ➡️ bit.ly/3VzdgBn

EV MARKET UPDATE: Sales of sub-€25,000 EVs are set to rise sevenfold thanks to EU clean car targets driving an expansion of models on the market. The consumer’s appetite for small affordable EVs proves the issue is not demand, but what carmakers had to offer. Explore the analysis ➡️ bit.ly/4rNHyMK

pCAM, CAM, Cells? And what about recycling? Our new webpage explains the steps involved in making a battery to power your EV. Understanding how a battery is made is key to understanding where gaps remain in Europe. Check out the webpage ➡️ bit.ly/3TeKiWF

NEW: Europe will have enough battery cells for all EU-made EVs under the scope of the IAA, despite industry claims that local content rules are too ambitious. A European battery value chain won't build itself. We need demand-side rules for local components to secure jobs and economic resilience.

As EU hauliers face soaring diesel prices, our new analysis shows that electric trucks are cheaper to operate than diesel for almost half of trucks sold in the EU. Electrification remains the only realistic option to protect against future oil crises. More from our new TCO calculator 👇

Europe’s truckers are on the front line of the diesel crisis. There has never been a better time to switch from diesel to electric, but we need truckmakers and governments to support them in doing so. Truckmakers should stick to Europe’s 2030 CO2 goals, rather than asking for further delay. 5/

European truckmakers have dominated the market, but are now seeing increasing competition from cheaper e-trucks from China and the US. In Germany, this would mean €34,000 more savings over five years. 3/

In an industry of small margins focused on profit, this should act as a wake up call for European truckmakers, which must speed- and scale-up the production of e-trucks to remain market leaders. 4/

Electric trucks deliver a lower TCO in six out of nine major EU markets. In NL & DE, e-trucks reach their payback time after only 2 years, with savings reaching €100,000 & €85,000 respectively over 5 years. With current high diesel prices, savings could rise to €123,000 & €106,000 respectively. 2/

NEW DATA: Europe is paying a €203 million a day premium for diesel due to geopolitical shocks. With 38% of EU passenger cars being diesel, Europe is uniquely exposed to these disruptions. 🧵👇

Investments in scrappage schemes now will start to pay back quickly. If the current diesel premium continues until Christmas, the EU will have spent the same as offering a €2000 scrappage fee for all diesel cars over 15 years old – which is 30% of diesel cars on the road. 4/

Drivers are paying a premium of €30 at the pump. Higher pump prices are squeezing consumers, while higher transport costs push up the price of everything else. Meanwhile, oil companies doubled their latest quarterly profits in Europe at the expense of consumers. 2/

A faster EV ramp up is the only solution to shield Europe from high prices in the long run. This can be achieved through scrappage schemes and tighter vehicle emissions rules. 3/

The EU should expand its monitoring scheme for contrails to all flights in 2027 to improve data gathering. It should also push ahead with the Commission’s proposal to provide free ETS allowances to airlines that start contrail avoidance. 5/

But despite their considerable impact, there are no binding measures at regional or global level to reduce aviation’s non-CO2 climate impacts. This is in part because the aviation industry has been resisting action for years, claiming that the science is still too uncertain. 3/

A review of the current scientific understanding of contrails shows that the evidence is now sufficiently robust to support policy action. What needs to happen now? 4/

Contrails contribute to global warming at a similar level to aviation’s CO2 emissions, but they can be prevented by rerouting only a few flights. A new report finds that preventing their formation could delay aviation-related warming by ten years. 2/

NEW RESEARCH: Reckless airport expansion plans will cause 20 major European airports to blow past their carbon limits, with some surpassing their limits almost three times over. 🧵👇

The myth that tech improvements alone will reduce emissions enough doesn't hold up. European airports cannot expand on the promise that cleaner fuels and efficiency will cut this growth in time to keep global warming below 1.7°C. But the good news is that quicker solutions already exist. 3/

NEW RESEARCH: Reckless airport expansion plans will cause 20 major European airports to blow past their carbon limits, with some surpassing their limits almost three times over. 🧵👇

The biggest overshoots come from Lisbon, Porto and Dublin. In fact, Lisbon’s planned new airport alone will add 18 million tonnes of CO₂ – equal to half a year of Portugal's entire economy. 2/

NEW ANALYSIS: Chinese & US truckmakers are set to gain over a quarter of the European electric truck market by 2030 – unless the EU maintains the ambition of the truck CO2 standards. Key findings 🧵👇

🏆 New entrants perform just as well as European models on range, charging time, max payload & efficiency. 🚛 The market is currently dominated by a small group of legacy OEMs, meaning new entrants have a huge opportunity to capture a big share of the market with comparable quality at lower prices 4/

Competitive Chinese and US truck models are already in the European market. Slowing the pace of electrification would only allow these competitors to gain a greater advantage in the market – both in Europe and around the world. Check out the full analysis ➡️ bit.ly/4gWSqCP 5/

📈🇪🇺 E-trucks make up over 15% of new sales in countries like Norway, Sweden and the Netherlands, due to the EU CO2 rules in force since July 2025 and falling battery prices. 2/

🇨🇳💸 Buying a Chinese e-truck can lower total cost of ownership by 12% compared to a European model – meaning savings of up to €43,000 over five years. 3/

New data from @eea.europa.eu shows PHEVs emit on average SIX times what official tests claim: 145g CO2/km vs. 24g CO2/km. And the gap is widening each year. This comes as the car lobby is demanding that the EU scrap rules that would better reflect PHEV pollution. Our analysis: bit.ly/4yq1d7t

London is Europe’s busiest city for air travel. But after experiencing Europe’s worst summer on record and amid growing concern about climate change, a new poll shows that nearly half of Brits want more international train services, not more flights. 🧵👇

People recognise that adding more air links is not the solution if we want to improve connectivity, especially when the Channel Tunnel still has significant capacity for more passenger trains. 2/

Imagine living where the air is “constantly torn apart” by aircraft storms ✈️🌪️ For hundreds of thousands of people living under the flight paths of Europe’s expanding mega-airports, this is reality. Watch the full documentary ➡️ bit.ly/42qkpnJ

In seven EU countries, aviation’s climate impact – considering both CO2 and non-CO2 effects – is now higher than cars. The growth in aviation emissions threatens to cancel out gains made elsewhere by EV uptake and jeopardise Europe’s successes. Check out the state of EU aviation ➡️ bit.ly/4bNNbD0
