Not Walter Koenig! No!

George Takei@georgetakei.bsky.social

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

Flora and Fauna of the foothills of the Bradshaw Mountains north of Phoenix. Snapdragon vine, datura, some kind of agave, and a wild burro. :3

All this rain lately has my Akimel O'odham Black Tepary beans developing their first pods! These are the most heat and drought tolerant crop on Earth, and a testament to the bioengineering prowess of the indigenous peoples of the Sonoran Desert!

Just went to a pinball furmeet down the street from my house. I'm so glad to finally live in a place with furry events in my neighborhood. ;3

Just my luck, right as I start getting hooked on Ube, the Philippines announces that they're restricting the export of the yam to ensure they have enough material to keep up their own domestic production. Can't argue with that, it's their crop after all!

As someone who was close enough to the Pentagon to see the smoke on 9-11, I'm going to spend that day off the Internet and not listening to the myriad of dogshit takes and shitty jokes about one of the worst days of my life. Thanks.

9-11 might feel like a faraway mythical event to a lot of people, but it still feels like it, the sniper and anthrax attacks in DC happened yesterday to me, and I loathe this time of year because of it.

The four mountains in Arizona that I'm going to use for high elevation hiking training over the next few years! Sitgreaves and Bill Williams at above around 9000', Kendrick at over 10,000' and Humphreys, the highest point in AZ at just above 12,000'. :3

So I've gotten considerably obsessed with Filipino food and Ube especially these last few months now that we have the first Seafood City in AZ a few blocks away, and the only Cafe 86 in AZ right across the street next to my gym. Which means, of course, that it's time for some Ube Halaya! ;3

👠3/3 — The Principia says our nameless spirituality returns to Void “like a tired child home from a very wild circus.” Well, Tim had one hell of a circus. The clown was terrifying, the doctor wore fishnets, the Devil had horns—and every blessed freak got invited backstage. Sleep well, Saint Tim.💋🍏

🍎 2/3 — Curry made Camp into sacrament: Frank-N-Furter, Darkness, Pennywise, Wadsworth—each another holy reminder that Normal is merely Weird wearing a cheap necktie and hoping nobody notices. The Principia says every man, woman & child is a Pope. Tim had better wardrobe. ⚡

R.I.P. Saint Tim Curry The Sweet Transvestite of Sacred Chao • Cardinal of the Perpetual Sneer • Grand High Panjandrum of Fishnets & Fright • Lord of the Crimson Lips • Archduke of Camp • Pope of the Antici……pation • Episkopos of the Rocky Horror Cabal • Patron Saint of Beautiful Weirdos

In honor of Tim Curry, here's some ancient furry Rocky Horror fanart I did over 20 years ago. Back when Rocky was the only place in immediate post-9-11 Northern Virginia where you could even consider openly being a queer weirdo. RIP legend!

Just reminiscing about the time I traveled to Dallas, one of the most spiritually decrepit urban landscapes in N. America, to witness a total solar eclipse, which is one of the most spiritually awe-inspiring sights a human can witness. What a mindfuck... Only in America, folks!

Ha! The local police force just discontinued their flock camera contract and will be getting rid of them! Sometimes it's nice living in a part of Arizona that actually functions properly. Between this and booting out data centers, Chandler keeps getting high marks in my book! :3
