Whisper We chose this word for our Mystery at Midnight workbook because it’s such a strong storytelling tool. A whisper can make a scene secretive, spooky, or even fun. Tip for parents/educators: When kids learn words in stories, they don’t just memorize, they feel them. That’s what makes it stick.

In 5th grade, I turned in a story about a knight who got lost on the way to a castle. My teacher wrote in the margin: You have a big imagination, keep going. I didn’t know it then, but that single note made me want to keep writing. The power of encouragement! One spark can light the whole fire.
