I remember seeing so many videos of Captain Planet taking down polluters until he made Admiral. Now he's just some bigwig bureaucrat at the UN. Shame.

Hmm.. This just may be the Reddit app handing off to Chrome badly. "Open in browser" being incorrectly implemented by the vibecoders at Reddit wouldn't surprise me, though it's a little odd that it's handled that way, but maybe the Javascript can't distinguish that situation, idk

I've encountered that error just browsing before though, especially clicking links from search engines, even after disabling ad blockers, but I figured maybe my Linux Firefox build not being the latest build was resulting in a missing Javascript feature. But maybe the Referer behavior is fragile?

I had followed a link from a trending Reddit post, so I'm wondering if Anubis has a server-side failure mode which blames the client's browser. Like the hashing results get sent but the server is too busy and rejects the connection request completely? Maybe I'll DevTools and investigate in a bit

I think Elon is eventually going to try to market robot wives. Android with subscription to Grok as a high end personal companion... with a heavily implied sense of slimyness about it

I think this will be unpopular but I believe that hope is a universal human right. Specifically, this should entail everyone deserving repeated opportunities to meaningfully contribute to society -- even if they have done shitty things which result in their autonomy being heavily restricted.

Someone who is traumatized should be given therapy and support. Someone who is ill should be offered appropriate care. Someone who is reckless should be able to access tutelage promoting personal responsibility. Someone who is born into an ill-fitting life trajectory should be able to change it.

I think it is such a waste when society cannot figure out a plan to allow someone to make a positive impact on society. Sometimes people's social impact must be restricted due to their past actions, but I believe the chance to do something positive, in some way, should still be present, always.

Human life is rare and precious, even though some of that humanity behaves in appalling ways. To that end, what hope meaningfully looks like may differ from person to person, but the end result is everyone should have access to an appropriately constructive path forward for their life, always.

There's a lot of value in human input that the AI bros miss when trying to get models to score higher on their tests. The ability of a community to sustain intergenerational networks of practical knowledge sharing and trust, despite the fallibility of individual members, is simply immeasurable

My opinion is that in a certain gustatory emergency, urine is a conveniently avaliable fluid albeit with a strange taste which can help rinse out far worse tastes. Though it doesn't seem like it right at first

Feeling overwhelmed is like the emotional version of nausea. Like waves of gastric distress, the waves of "I can't do this" threaten to take over despite all efforts

I repurpose a lot of older hardware, letting me get serious value out of stuff many people would toss. I am often locked on older OSs or software libraries as a result on parts of my LAN. Talking to these systems with modern software is getting harder due to efforts to eliminate compatibility

Amazing to see people build sub sandwiches and sprinkle the lettuce on top at the end, where it just ends up spilling out, rather than including a bed of lettuce as a fundamental layer

Took 2 hrs to copy most data with Android's built in tooling, which doesn't even copy most of your settings and doesn't copy apps. Took TEN HOURS to install the play store apps (apparently bc of the encrypted isolated containers which get built for EVERY APP even tiny utilities=/...)

Eagerly waiting for Alphabet to get hit with a class action anticompetition lawsuit. I used to like Android's support for power users ,but they've gradually removed more and more of it. Android is just another walled-garden knockoff of Apple iOS now

Many of my apps aren't play store apps since Google shifted towards charging developers money to build Android software. None of those were migrated at all. Downloaded APKs are specifically blocked from the sync of your Downloads folder to the new device too...๐Ÿคฌ๐Ÿคฌ๐Ÿคฌ๐Ÿคฌ๐Ÿคฌ

Looks like despite my attempts to back up and copy as much as possible, I'm still going to be spending tons of time setting basic things up. My keyboard settings and languages didn't even transfer which is insane from a usability standpoint

Now I understand why Microsoft tried to force everyone to set up their cloud logins for Swype... Android's endless efforts to limit usability make 3rd-party keyboard apps, even from major software vendors, probably make cloud accounts for many apps the only way to manage settings. Jfc.

Amazon when it's not rain season: we put your item's box inside shrink wrap inside another box inside our own box and hid it inside furniture on your porch Amazon when it's rain season: we stuck a shipping label right on the item and left it in the middle of the porch, exposed to the sky

I tend to avoid Amazon now but unfortunately after they killed brick and mortar businesses, they are sometimes the only source for some stuff on short notice depending on where you live

it's such a pain in the ass to get data out of your apps when you can't just use a backup app or do a full backup with adb. some data adb can still get, but other data requires multiple manual steps for each app, and other data can't even be backed up at all.

Those who would take away end users' essential Data Autonomy, to purchase a little temporary Endpoint Security*, deserve neither Respect nor Success. cannot wait for the anti-consumer tech collusion era to fucking die. * it's really more for content-as-a-service DRM bullshit

my cell provider discontinued their internet-based access to text messaging inboxes (as well as their email-to-text gateway) within the last few years, unfortunately (and then tried to force everyone onto google's buggy, slow texting app! i found a 3rd-party option at least)

my old phone was android 11, originally, but my provider forced it onto android 12, which removes the ability to back up your whole phone yourself. i'm changing phone brands (samsung kinda sucks now) so i can't use samsung's phone migration app...

we had some rain yesterday so i'm guessing they didn't get to all the stops if rain slowed things down. but there's been no updates at all. not re-scanned at the warehouse pending a new delivery date, not put on another truck, nothing. goddammit

i've had to deal with one "we texted your phone a code to confirm it's you!" to fill a prescription, which was a hassle but i was eventually able to get the code in time to login. i just have to hope i don't get MFA texts with short time windows right now...!

i'm typically not impatient with deliveries. but my previous phone is hanging on by a thread now: it's barely usable, usually requiring fiddling with adb [plus having to enter my unlock code on a broken, dying screen which keeps overheating] =/

huh... does the SSB BFO on my grundig G5 have a warmup time? it seems to be stabilizing after a few minutes, but it was shifting pretty quickly at first. could also be something going wrong with my network pulseaudio pipe (wsjt-x isn't running on a box near the actual radio)

I'm so frustrated with my life lately and I don't know what to do about it. I think the best chance I have at happiness and a sense of meaning is to walk away from a lot of what I enjoy, what I'm passionate about, and what I'm comfortable with. That feels kind of nonsensical, though, so it's...idk

The world around me feels more and more alien. I frequently struggle with feelings of despair and disorientation. I end up much more bitter than I want to be. Things feel so strange and empty. Maybe I need some type of support group, but what type? Where would I even find it? I have no idea.

building flatpak since they switched to meson, and wow their scripts just don't understand a system which uses /usr/lib64 rather than /usr/lib for 64-bit libraries... the older autotools flatpak versions didn't have this problem lol

okay i misspoke on the self-referential links, misread the errors in the logs. but i still end up with flatpakrepo.5.gz and flatpakref.5.gz then symlinks from flatpak-flatpakrepo.5 to flatpakrepo.5 (no longer exists because it's gzipped), same for flatpak-flatpakref, from meson install. idk, weird

meson install isn't supposed to compress manpages anymore, but some are gzipped after it runs, before my build script calls gzip. weird. anyway, something like this ig: find $DESTDIR/usr/man/man* -type l -a '!' -name '*.gz' | xargs -I'{}' bash -c 'ln -s $(readlink "{}").gz "{}".gz ; rm "{}"'

one of my priorities for computing is repeatability. i like long-running standards and backwards compatibility a *lot*, because this decreases maintenance effort and enables older programs to work with minimal updates -- which can be important for some scientific and engineering situations

it seems like the custom install script lines for meson.build don't correctly handle --destdir when you have a custom manpath for meson setup, maybe? i can just manually put the files from doc/build into the staging loc before tarballing the package but... growing pains, or fixing what ain't broke?

many of the complaints i see about autotools are based on issues improved or resolved years ago or someone's personal preference for python-centered environments rather than posix-based ones. i have to keep so many build systems' deps working now. i used to only need bash, make, & common utils...

pre-build fix is straightforward, change make-test-runtime.sh's line cp -r /usr/lib/locale/C.* ...usr/lib/locale/en-US to instead reference /usr/lib64/locale/C.* -- but don't touch destination path sed -i 's|/usr/lib/locale/C|/usr/lib'"$LIBDIRSUFFIX"'/locale/C|g' \ tests/make-test-runtime.sh

for some reason i also have to run ninja flatpak-doc manually to get the gdbus-codegen output into build/reference/doc/ correctly before meson install and meson install --destdir=/tmp/pkgbuild runs custom script ln -sf lines for flatpakrepo.5 & flatpakref.5 which create self-referential links... !!!

Something empowering was realizing I had more influence over my feelings than I thought, and I could gradually alter my emotional response towards things that made me feel unnecessarily negative, it just took continued work and self-examination. Moreover, I could always choose how I then act.

I used to freak out over all sorts of everyday things, due to feelings that aren't even conscious responses. But gradually I learned to deal with them better and no longer panic. I didn't think I could, because it seemed like some sort of survival instincts gone awry, below my awareness. But I did.

The distinction in law & social attitudes where harm due to corporate choices is treated with "whoops, whatever" yet harm due to individuals' choices is often met with "it's the devil! kill it!" has always seemed inverted to me. Broken systems should be replaced promptly, lest they continue harming!

I hear "Tney should have known better / kept their emotions in check" as justification often against individuals, but when there's lots of people working together, somehow any damage dealt to human autonomy by corporate action or inaction becomes nobody's problem in particular, perpetuating misery.
