What does “trust” in data flows mean for workers? At yesterday’s #DFFT plenary, TUAC’s Sarah Jameson called on countries to prioritise workers’ rights to access, control, rectify and benefit from their data – backed by collective data rights and a strong role for trade unions.

A job should lift you out of poverty. For four in ten workers in low-income countries, it doesn’t. TUAC welcomes new OECD Guidance showing decent work and collective bargaining are a key part of the answer. With aid down 23.1%, donors must reverse the cuts and act on the Guidance. 1/2

Thailand’s bid to join the OECD is a real opportunity to advance labour rights, Thai trade unions told governments at a TUAC briefing. At present, 1.3% of people in work belong to a union. TUAC urges the OECD to use the accession process to raise labour standards. 1/2

When machines produce more, workers should work less and live better. TUAC’s Veronica Nilsson and UIL’s PierPaolo Bombardieri on how collective bargaining is already shaping the rules of AI at work, from the Writers Guild in the US to Just Eat in Spain.

How climate risk is measured shapes how early governments act – and who ends up paying. Many thanks to Professor Steve Keen for joining TUAC’s Working Group on Economic Policy yesterday to present his research on the economic impacts of climate change. 1/2

Trust in government falls when people feel they have no say. Trade unions give millions of people a voice every day, not just at election time. That was TUAC’s case at the OECD Global Forum on Building Trust and Reinforcing Democracy on 12 October. 1/2

Every Latin American country in PISA 2025 fell below the OECD average in every subject. And students who use AI chatbots for schoolwork score around 20 points lower in science, roughly a year of schooling. AI is being sold as the fix. The OECD's evidence says otherwise. 1/2

TUAC to ministers in the OECD LAC Summit session on knowledge and skills in the age of AI: governments must not outsource education to technology companies. AI in classrooms must be teacher-led, with teachers at the table through social dialogue and collective bargaining. 2/2

Latin America is one of the most unequal regions in the world. Without policy action, AI will make it more so. TUAC's Veronica Nilsson to ministers at the OECD LAC Summit: young workers and women are most exposed, and the jobs at risk are the decent ones. 1/3

Regulation and innovation are not in tension. But legislation alone is not enough. It needs collective bargaining, so AI complements human work and gains are shared. Trade unions are asking the OECD for a regional Action Plan on AI for Decent Work and Shared Prosperity. 2/3

The new OECD Outlook calls the world economy "resilient". But resilient for whom? Nominal wage growth is flat in most economies and inflation is rising. An economy that only gets through a crisis at the expense of the people who keep it running is not resilient – it is just not collapsing yet. 1/2

Workers' rights in Latin America and the Caribbean are in sharp decline. Panama and Argentina now among the 10 worst countries for workers. At the OECD Ministerial Dialogue in Madrid, TUAC called on the OECD and LAC governments to do more to prioritise workers' rights in the Regional Programme. 1/2

OECD unemployment close to historic lows – but real wages still haven't recovered in a third of economies, and employer restrictions are holding back wage growth. Low unemployment means little if too many jobs are insecure, underpaid, or concentrated in a handful of places. 1/2
