Anyway, it was a line that was not allowed to replicate the success the #oWoD line had even though it was in many ways superior both mechanically and lore-wise (mainly because it was consistent even when it branched out (Slasher, Thousand Years of Night, Legacies of the Sublime) or when it diverged

(Half-Damned, Left Hand Path or Victorian Lost), the lore always worked and actually allowed the reader to have a wider view and make more sense of the cruel and chilling universe where #ChroniclesofDarkness takes place. Alas, such a great line, mostly reduced to a footnote in the history of #ttrpg.

with hidden jewels like Slasher (for #HunterTheVigil) or the whole #NightHorrors subset of sourcebooks. The Lancea Sanctum and Ordo Dracul are prime examples of useful and well-executed faction books and almost all of the #MageTheAwakening like being "state of the art" in terms of execution, scope,

themes and design (both visual and game.) I still have to find a core book that is as beautiful as #MTA 1e... and there are plenty of incredible-looking core rulebooks left and right, but Mage? That one's an evergreen delight and sure worth having it in hardcopy to truly bask in its magnificence.

remained an example of high quality and tight focus, without any metaplot overdone bullshit and a feeling of loss and disenfranchisement throughout that made it magical. The world was weird and atrocious and surprising, again. Old tricks were wasted on the new dogs, who had their own way of doing

things and they worked surprisingly well once people stopped trying to return to the "vampires in trenchcoats with katanas" day of cheese and camp and high school-level drama with bad comic book plotting. The most interesting things were actually the "peripherals" populating each of the core games,

mild contemplation—with pauses to go out for Tundro's 3 daily walks and grabbing a bite for myself—about the overall consistency and good quality most of the books in the #ChroniclesofDakness line actually were. Vampire and Werewolf were maligned by the toxic fandom throwing a tantrum because they

wanted the same old bag of bones and "hated" the new directions for these two games—granted, #WerewolfTheForsaken remains my least favorite among the whole line, but it's not "bad." Its "new" cosmogony is kind of weird, but it's less juvenile than WTA's one became pretty quickly. But the whole line

My fist five #ttrpgs: 1. Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 1e 2. Shadowrun 1e 3. Role Master Boxed Set* 4. WHFRG 1e 5. Call if Cthulhu 4e. * While I understood all the effort that went into it, this particular system was a letdown for me. Too many tables, not enough flair and typical, simple artwork.

My first five RPGs: 1: Dragon Warriors 2: Stormbringer 3: TMNT 4: Ghostbusters 5: Palladium RPG The order of 2-5 is hazy. Star Trek and Call of Cthulhu could have been in there somewhere. D&D came to us later, but really WFRP was the first system we played for extended campaigns.

TV show (think ep116 onwards until ep210, when the true legendary status of the show actually began,) presenting the situation in very dense and rather unconvincingly-delivered way via dialogue fit for theatre, not the screen (IKYK.) My point is: the movie is a rarity and not "bad," but not great,

either. Sensibilities and cultural trappings notwithstanding, I wouldn't call it a proper adaptation, for it takes many of the characters' pathos away because of dutiful-yet-uninspired acting by almost everyone involved. I guess what I'm trying to say is: read the novel. That one's worth your time.

1984 everyone had forgotten about it because big time sci-fi and horror movies started popping up like mushrooms, so those movies hailing from behind the crumbling Iron Curtain? Nobody seemed to care about it anymore. With "Savage Hunt" is a bit understandable as its pacing is really slow, the sets

are little more than half-decorated black boxes aimed at creating the illusion of an old manor house yet falling as short as "Collinsport" did in portraying the "grand manse" of the Collins family in "Dark Shadows." Funny; the movie does snail its way very much like some of the later episodes in the

NOT like the adaptation, even though the only Belarusian "terror/detective/psychological thriller" movie to come out of the Soviet era did win some cinema awards and was praised by the critics of the time (the movie was done in 1979, but the "rest of the world" only became aware of it in 1980 and by

A 56-year-old Mexican man held at a federal immigration facility in Laredo was found dead in his cell Saturday morning. His family says the center would not give him medicine for diabetes, high blood pressure and a heart condition. He is the 7th person to die in ICE custody in Texas this year.

We've been telling you that, for, at least, the last 3 years. If business is affected by slop, don't try and pretend genAI is "art" in any form or discipline. Just hear the music, see the images, read the drek passed as novels... It's slop.

Now, if you want to create a #ttrpg, but have no idea where to start, the fine folks at Thought Punk's are here to make your life a bit easier. I personally recommend PbtA (Powered by the Apocalypse) as a solid stepping stone for a preliminary system that you can then grow with more complex rules.

While 25 million is an awful lot for almost everyone in the world, having that amount isn't considered being "ultra-rich" by the ultra-rich. Still, with that amount of money, I'd buy a piece of land and the necessary hardware to have my "food truck park" so I can cook in a different one each day.

Peter@notalawyer.bsky.social

question for the audience: if you were ultra rich (let’s say $25M), what completely frivolous thing are you buying?

Good wee hours of the morning, to you. I'm Txabier and my latest horror book is about three sisters, necromancy and why it's bad to surprise mom with revenant former lovers (and fathers to each one of the sisters,) set in a fictional XIX Century (semirural) México. It aims to revolt and rejoice.
