A politician voting for a bill and then claiming ignorance about its contents is a bit like a doctor prescribing a medication and then claiming ignorance of what it does, what side effects it may have, or if it’ll even address the issue at hand. Political malpractice.

I’ve come to the conclusion that everyone who voted for Trump is either an idiot or an asshole - possibly both. But I can’t find any space outside that Venn Diagram. If anyone knows a reason to have voted for him that does not fall into either category, please let me know.

Since when did ‘manhood’ involve loose control over emotions, insecurity, lack of empathy and weak shallow thinking? I always thought masculinity meant confidence, empathy, considered deliberation and support for the disadvantaged. There’s nothing emasculating about emotional intelligence.

Believers often ask, “What’s the harm?” - Opportunity cost. You only have so much time and money and spending them on nonsense removes those assets from genuine good. - Naive thinking makes you more vulnerable to scams and charlatans. - It warps moral thinking into a sociopathic framework.

Too many people think that bringing down inflation reduces prices. No, that would be negative inflation, which is bad. (See China right now) It makes me sad how many Americans don’t understand the basic fundamental math at play on this topic.

There is a reason TikTok is so good at figuring out what you want to see, and why it’s better than everything else: it’s a weapon, and the best weapon is one you don’t know exists, or worse, one you think you can’t live without

I understand a lot of people are emotionally connected to Tik Tok. But they also seem to be in denial about the very real security concerns. Like finding out your hero had an evil side all along. Go hug a tree and touch some grass and take a deep breath. I’m sure you’ll survive somehow.

CA didn’t ‘run out of water’. When you tap hundreds or thousands of hydrants at the same time the system pressure drops. They’re designed for house fires, not several whole neighborhoods at once. You can’t fix what you don’t understand.

Who’s prepared for pandemic 2.0? Several fun new diseases are breaking out around the world. Think we’ll be more ready in 1-3 years than we were last time? I have my doubts, given the track record of the incoming administration.

I’m a bit tired of people not knowing the difference between skeptical and cynical. People who talk about skeptics as close-minded or dogmatic are making exactly this error. Just because your evidence is crap doesn’t mean I’m closed to evidence. I just know how to evaluate it.

I don’t understand the proposals for a Ukrainian peace plan involving guarantees from NATO and US. Isn’t that a bit like firemen showing up and saying, “I know we promised to put out any fires, but we’ll get the next one,.. promise.” Are we willing to help or not? If so, then just do it.

Anyone else see those ‘coexist’ bumper stickers and think, “you clearly don’t understand anything about those religions.”? Demands to believe mutually exclusive unprovable nonsense does not lead to peaceful or tolerant societies. The power of religion amplifies schisms, not heal them.

There have been too many people needing rescues off mountains lately. Please, know your limits, share your plans, have the proper gear and don’t be ashamed to turn back if conditions change. Don’t put SARs teams at risk because you didn’t tell anyone you went hiking in crocs.

Compulsory gifting is terrible. It adds too much time, emotional and financial pressure to people’s lives. It’s never quite the right match to what they would have gotten for themselves. It’s wasteful and bad for the environment. It encourages companies to make a Xmas hell-scape.

In 1659, the the Puritans in Massachusetts enacted a law that declared that Christmas was sacrilege and exchanging of gifts, greetings, and wearing fine clothing on that day was Satanic. Anyone caught celebrating was fined 5 shillings. (About 5 days wages.) The "War on Christmas" was an inside job.

Thailand 🇹🇭 is taking extensive preparedness measures due to the evolving H5N1 bird flu situation in the US, and is preparing for a local outbreak, according to Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University.

The flu virus fucks... By which I mean, if two different strains of flu are present in a single animal, they can both infect one cell and when they repackage themselves, the result is a bunch of virus particles with shared elements from each viral genome.

First the good ol’ boys in pickup trucks bothered the Tesla drivers. Then anyone who’s uncomfortable with Musk’s recent political influence bothered Tesla drivers. There are plenty of other good EVs. The Ioniq 6 is magnificent.
