Why is UCLA (admin) LIKE THIS? The week before the fall quarter starts, we got told that all computers will be disappearing from classrooms. Especially frustrating for those faculty who don’t have a UCLA-supplied device. Thanks to @ucaft.bsky.social for pushing back. docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...

UC students deserve access to high quality instruction delivered by professional educators who value critical thinking, information literacy, and free inquiry.

UC management wants you to believe our future will be defined by austerity, corporate managerialism, and AI. They are abandoning the UC’s public mission in favor of maximizing profits with exploitative tuition policies, dodgy real estate investments, and deep cuts to undergraduate education.

How much did you get for a raise this year? 1%? 3%? How about 25%? FACT: California billionaires increased their net worth by 25% over the last two years. That's about $432 billion dollars. Tax the billionaires ➡️ Save California's health care system. Vote YES on Prop 40. #YesOn40

We’re recapping some U18 lecturer bargaining highlights in support of a fair contract. ✊ weteachuc.org/bargaining-u... Kat Lewin spoke about the importance for Zoom bargaining to support transparency: “It’s important for our members to understand the contract if they’re going to ratify it.”

Lee has trained hundreds of K-12 educators during her 18 years in the Education Dept. at UCLA. But the innovative social justice pedagogy and off-campus programs she has developed have repeatedly been cancelled for political reasons. As a result, her appointment has been reduced by nearly 50%.

Reiterman is a scholar of the ancient Mediterranean and has taught hundreds of student in multiple departments at UCSC. But when she learned that she was earning less than her TA, she quit. “Can you imagine the insult of being paid less than your assistant who graduated with a BA just months prior?”

Reiterman: “I hope that these experiences – the communnal process of discovery, connecting past and present, side-by-side-will shape my students’ view of the world and remind them that the learning process can be slow and immersive. We lecturers are the ones here ready to do this important work.”

Larimore-Hall to UC negotiators: “What we’re proposing is a set of constraints on the University’s ability to unilaterally impose new technology and turn us and our students into guinea pigs. What’s happening in our classrooms at UC is a disaster and we’re here to save you from yourself.”

Daraka helped craft our proposal for a new article about technology in the classroom. It aims to: 1) protect our jobs by mandating human, not AI, instruction; 2) safeguard our data and privacy through new data management; ...
