The UCLA Labor Center is officially on BlueSky! Established in 1964, the UCLA Labor Center advances cutting-edge research, education, and service guided by our core values: economic equity, racial and immigrant justice, and worker power and solidarity. 👏

Over the summer, our AARJ team held a variety of workshops that uplifted the role of AAPI workers in building worker power over the course of U.S. history. By learning the struggles that came before us, our communities will be better prepared to advocate for their needs today.

Meatpacking is one of the most dangerous jobs in America, but a new report by @uclalabor.bsky.social hones in on the city of Vernon in Los Angeles County, California, where around 50,000 people come to work in meatpacking facilities each day. @jesslsr.bsky.social reports:

“The ICE raids are everywhere,” says LC Project Director Victor Narro @victornarro1.bsky.social, “so there’s already that fear. The employers tap into that fear to keep them in a situation where they become afraid to complain about working conditions. So then you see a higher level of violations.”
