Demo: CAP (Contrastive Activation Patching) is an open-source toolkit for finding, comparing and steering the neurons behind behaviours like hallucination, across languages. It’s joint work with @UniBonn, Fraunhofer IAIS & Lamarr Institute (Semenikhin, Frey, Dušek, Flek, Schmidtová).

Our posters covered: 📊 A retrospective on NLG evaluation (Schmidtová, Mahamood, Dušek) 💬 Why reasoning gets harder for LLMs inside a dialogue (Kartáč, Lango, Dušek) 🐾 VetScore: risk-weighted fact-checking for veterinary QA (Kartáč, Tovarys, Lango, Dušek) 🌍 Modular multilingual LMs (Kumar, Dušek)

The paper asks whether LLMs describe data less faithfully when the data contradicts what they “know”. The team built factual, counterfactual and fictional data from local Czech and Slovak knowledge, and had 9 open models write text in English, Czech, Slovak and Upper Sorbian.

✨ ÚFAL at #DHECC2026 in Denmark! 🏆 Huge congrats to Christopher Brückner & team (N. S. Andersen, A. Revenko, U. Yorsh, K. Tauchmanová, A. Turčan, P. Pecina) for winning the Best Paper Award for their NLP work on Holocaust testimonies in the MEMORISE project! 🧵👇 #DigitalHumanities #NLP

🎓 Filip Makara presented research from his BSc thesis on Dense Passage Retrieval & custom UI for the Visual History Archive. The award-winning paper "Semantic Enrichment of Historical Archives" will appear in the International Journal of Digital Humanities! 📖 #OralHistory #AIinResearch

From data highways to oral history: ÚFAL researchers presented at the CLARIN Conference in Barcelona. Ondřej Košarko & Pavel Straňák compared EOSC-CZ & CLARIN infrastructure architectures, while Christopher Brückner showcased MalachNER, turning oral history into searchable data. #NLP #CLARIN2026

Congrats, Adnan! 🎉 If you're at #EMNLP2026 in Budapest 🇭🇺, don't miss this one.

Very happy to share that Adnan Al Ali's first big PhD project has been accepted to #EMNLP2026! 🎉 Joint work with @kathaem.bsky.social, me & Alex Fraser. Paper: arxiv.org/abs/2608.03446 What predicts multilingual LLM performance in a language? 🧵

Congrats! Stop by to chat with @ivankartac.bsky.social at #ACL2026 in San Diego 🇺🇸 He's presenting 2 papers: A modular neuro-symbolic system pairing small LLMs with a theorem prover for syllogistic reasoning, and BOULDER, a new benchmark showing LLM reasoning drops sharply inside multi-turn dialogue.

Ivan Kartáč@ivankartac.bsky.social

Heading to San Diego for #ACL2026, where I’ll be presenting two papers (see 🧵). Stop by to chat about evaluating reasoning embedded in task-oriented dialogue, or how to use small LLMs in modular neuro-symbolic approaches to syllogistic reasoning!

Input, more input 🤖⚡ Just like Jonny 5 in Short Circuit, our baby model is reading every single token from its pretraining dataset. So far: 10 trillion tokens, 36 languages + code & math as their own "languages" 📚🌍💻 We’re tracking progress & sharing it openly 👇 (1/2)

Lukáš Eigler defended his thesis (co-supervised with David Hurych, @valeoai.bsky.social) 🎉 Congrats! #NLP metric validation needs 🐌💰 human judgment data. Our fix: generate synthetic data for metric validation. ✅ Tested on MT, QA, summarization. To appear #ACL2026 SRW: arxiv.org/abs/2603.09403

One of a dozen master's theses defended at our institute this season. Thesis season is always a reminder of the talented students passing through here. 🎓

Is "Je to obrovský problém, tvrdí české ministerstvo obrany." Czech or Slovak? Both. Language ID systems must pick one: and that's just one way they break. Our new benchmark CHALIS exposes how fragile they really are. 📄 arxiv.org/abs/2606.06088 🤗 huggingface.co/datasets/michal-tichy/CHALIS
