We’re now in the “raiding the homes of our political opponents” phase of democratic backsliding…

I do not think an exec branch led by a man who thinks he is entitled to treat federal agents as an arm of his firm, refers to Somali Americans as “garbage” and has said racist things specifically about Omar is capable of neutrally applying the law to her, to put it mildly apnews.com/article/ilha...

Edith Stein did her dissertation about empathy with Husserl at the Univ. of Freiburg and was his assistant for a brief while. Her subsequent habilitation (about psychology and Geisteswissenschaften) was rejected by the Univ. of Göttingen. The Nazis murdered her in 1942. #HOPOS #HPS #phenomenology

So happy to be part of this 2-days conference with people who really care about the history of philosophy and psychology in America! Perfectly organised with no parallel sessions by Matthias Neuber, this first day was a blast ✨

In the midst of all the horrifying news items, here's a conference website with colorful pictures american-realism.de/Consciousnes... #HOPOS #HPS

Day two of the fun and stimulating workshop in interactions between American philosophy and psychology. With great talks by @claudia-cristalli.bsky.social, Alex Klein, and Matthias Neuber #HOPOS #HPS

A few snapshots from today’s talks within the American Realism workshop in Mainz! Featuring Lisa Kampen, Michael Annacker, @sanderverhaegh.bsky.social, and Cornelis Menke. First talk by Gary Hatfield (not pictured). Full program here: american-realism.de/Consciousnes...

Finally had a chance to listen to @tespiteri.bsky.social's interview with my friend Jahnavi Phalkey (@jahnavi.bsky.social). Great job, both of you! I have many follow-up questions, but that's not a bad thing #HPS

Thomas Spiteri@tespiteri.bsky.social

I enjoyed speaking to Dr Jahnavi Phalkey about India’s place in the history of modern science, the ways in which that history has been constructed, & how the pursuit of nuclear physics became intertwined with a newly independent nation’s efforts to define its own identity. linktr.ee/thehpspodcast

Congratulations to John Norton for winning the 2026 Lakatos Award! I will admit that I have not read the two volumes, but his 2003 paper on the Material Theory of Induction is already a classic that I really like and cite regularly. #philsci #philosophy #hps

And the 2026 Lakatos Award goes to... John Norton's BSPS Open monographs! www.lse.ac.uk/philosophy/n... Download your Open Access copies here: press.ucalgary.ca/series/bsps-... #PhilSci #openaccess #lakatosaward #materialtheoryofinduction

In the 1930s, a group of European philosophers fled fascism and reshaped American philosophy. Why did logical positivism have such an impact on US thought? And why did it play a central role in the culture wars of the 1950s and 1960s? Released today! Logical Positivism: An American History (1/3)

I had such a great time at SPSP. Many thanks to the organizers at @hpscambridge.bsky.social for pulling off an exceptionally well-organized conference and making it seem effortless (which I know it was not!). Such a wonderful community. I came home feeling truly invigorated. #philsci

17 June 1942 | SS men shot 120 Polish prisoners at the Death Wall in Auschwitz I. They were selected from those deported to the camp from Warsaw, Krakow, Tarnów, Radom, and Lublin. One of them was a brickmaker from Marki Edward Rabczyński (np. 22869). He was 29 years old.

for a technophobe like me, it's a major turn-off when I agree to review a paper and then have jump through multiple hoops to even see the paper (disable cookies, reset passwords, etc.). Seriously, I don't even know what cookies are, and I don't care to know

as a student in Frankfurt, I had the privilege of attending some classes taught by Habermas in the late 1980s and early 1990s. I would be lying if a claimed that I understood the content or significance of his theory, but to me he personifies the German post-war public intellectual. End of an era.

I hope they all end up being prosecuted by the International Criminal Court

Hegseth: "We will keep pushing, keep advancing. No quarter, no mercy for our enemies." No quarter is the refusal to take prisoners and instead just execute everyone. It's been considered a war crime for over a century.

If thousands of my neighbors just died at the hands of their own government and then my daughter was blown up by some chucklefuck on the other side of the planet claiming to help, I would walk into sea. It is hard to fathom the suffering innocent Iranians are enduring. God have mercy.

If you want to do an MA in North American Studies, you should come to Hannover (see cool video below). And if you want to do an MA in Philosophy of Science, you should ALSO come to Hannover. We may not have a video (yet), but we are also smart, international, and fun :-)

If you’re thinking about a master in North American Studies: look into Hannover! We’re smart, we’re international, and we’re fun! We also have a great promo video!

"Feest demonstrates how there is no such thing as a theory-free exploration of psychological phenomena: exploration demands operationisation of some kind, which in turn reflects some kind of theoretical commitment about the object of research."
