Grey-bearded data wrangler, book devourer and recent convert to cat adoration. Unpleasant habits include a fondness for Prog Rock, possibly the result of a chaotic meeting of noodly tunes and Cthulhu's noodly appendages.

After 50 years of Labour control, Barnsley now has a Reform majority. They've FA so now they get to FO, but then they voted massively for Brexit, so Turkeys and Christmas springs to mind.

This is the best thing I've heard today, and possibly this week. Seems appropriate that the Great Old One should be mentioned on a Friday the 13th. Cthulhu ftagn! Iä! Iä!

What happened is I mentioned this absurd idea to a BBC producer and now I am writing an afternoon play for Radio 4 called THE CALL OF CTHUDO, to be recorded sometime in June with (ideally) various Green Wing alumni doing their best 1930's detective voices.

Historically Labour hasn't done too bad with Home Secs; Jenkins, Straw and Blunkett were all solid, reasonably progressive occupants of that office. Mahmood by comparison seems determined to plumb previously unseen depths of regressive policies, as @danielsohege.bsky.social so clearly highlights.

This is a hot mess of outright lies and misinformation from the Home Secretary, designed to try and persuade people that a government which is implementing some of the most hostile anti-immigration/asylum policies, in practice, for decades is progressive. 1/ www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...
