Funcom is laying off staff in a restructuring as it focuses solely on Conan Exiles and Dune Awakening. The CEO, a 22-year veteran of the Tencent-owned studio, will also step down: www.gamesindustry.biz/funcom-to-la...

I still think about the conversation I had with an uber driver Him: so what do you do Me: I’m a video game writer Him: wait, video games? They have writing? What do you write? Me: you know when you open up a game and you see the words? Him: yeah? Me: those

The funniest/saddest reaction to this amazing article has been people going "wait, Stellaris has WRITERS?" Yes folks, if a game has words... someone probably got paid to write them... even if that game isn't an RPG or a visual novel...

Live on console let's goooooo

Breaking. The permit to dump mining waste into the Førde fjord is illegal! 🐟 In an unprecedented, absolutely historic and strong ruling by Norways Supreme Court tonight the Nordic Mining company and the Norwegian Government lost. Environmental NGOs Naturvernforbundet and Natur and Ungdom won.🧵 1/

Huh, now I've seen it all. Gave Road To Vostok a go today since it just entered early access and.. What other game will allow you to loot and use snus, of all things, quickly followed by a very angry man yelling "perkele!" right outside where you're hiding?

I really hope this turns out to be incorrect, because I see first-hand how invaluable good localization is, but I'm not holding my breath..

I genuinely thought these screenshots were a joke at first, but after watching the Digital Foundry video I'm.. kinda stunned? It makes cool, pretty, artistic games look like the AI scam slop ads I get served on youtube.

For all the faults you could throw at NVIDIA, I wouldn't of thought DLSS would get to the point of actually yassifying games... Surely developers, or, artists, can't be excited for this, right?

Aaaand that's #Avowed finished! Honestly just a thoroughly and genuinely fun game all the way through! Might be a bit early to call this, but very likely going to be among the best games I play this year Big creds, @obsidian.net .. now maybe I should finally give Pillars of Eternity a go

I was considering doing a civ VII thread of my own, but this summarizes a lot of my feelings. Kinda bummed. Hopefully it grows on me the same way civ VI managed to, and I'll have another civ game to put 1000+ hrs into.

Is Funcom's new survival MMO Dune: Awakening any good? It's better than that - it's interesting. As I found out.

Dune: Awakening proves MMOs can still be interesting and try new things www.eurogamer.net/dune-awakeni...

Man.. every time I manage to tear myself away from #League, they pull me back with the cinematics. And there's so much LORE to unpack in this one!!

Also, the lore implications of this seems huge?? Are we retconning non-iceborn people outright guaranteed dying by touching true ice? Or is the ice on Darius' axe technically not true ice, but instead some sort of in-between?

Me: Narrative design and game writing are related but separate disciplines. You could compare it to architect and builder, both essential but serving separate functions. There are of course overlapping gray areas we can delve into Demon I trapped in a pentagram: Please free me. Send me back to hell

Finally started playing Balatro a few days ago, and it's scarily addictive. Why did nobody warn me?? I'm never gonna be productive again:(

Finally finished my playthrough of Frostpunk 2. What a game! Overall happy with the direction they went, expanding on the concept of the first game, instead of "just" making a sequel. [1/4] ! S P O I L E R S below 👇!

The most notable area of this "artificial" tension was at the very end, where it seemed like everyone got EXTREMELY hostile in an instant. All factions were at like 50% happiness, then suddenly some were at 0%, and general tension maxed out from nowhere. It really felt like a forced finale. [3/4]

Despite this, overall, the game was fantastic. Gameplay was fleshed out and engaging, visuals gorgeous, and the soundtrack AMAZING. H i g h l y recommend to anyone who enjoyed the first one, anyone who enjoy city/management games, or really anyone wanting to make really difficult choices.

While the overall tension between the factions, especially the extremist ones, felt like a nice give-and-take, it did also feel like they were "artificially" kept alive, even when things went really well in my city (low tension, high trust). [2/4]

Finally got around to Frostpunk2❄️ Feels like there's been a shift from city *building* to city *management*. That tradeoff is massively worth it though, with the increased scale, complexity, politics, and research. And every choice you make still make you feel like shit, so there's that 🥲
